Michael Shannon may play Nathan Summers or Cable in "Deadpool 2." The "Boardwalk Empire" star has been rumored to be the top choice to play the telepathic mutant in the movie sequel.

A report by Variety states that while there has been no official statement from 20th Century Fox, Michael Shannon may be the one to play Cable in "Deadpool 2." Ryan Reynolds who plays the titular character and acts as the producer of the films has not given any official announcements.

It was announced in the post credits of "Deadpool" that Cable and Domino will be in "Deadpool 2." Last week, Ryan Reynolds took it upon himself to announce "Atlanta" star Zazie Beetz as the one who snagged the role of Domino.

There have been many rumors regarding the potential actor for Cable in "Deadpool 2." IGN reports that Russell Crowe, Pierce Brosnan and David Harbour were few of the actors mentioned to have been interested in the role and Michael Shannon's name has popped up in the midst of the rumors.

According to the outlet, Michael Shannon is not a novice when it comes to playing comic book characters. The actor was in Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" as General Zod. The hype surrounding "Deadpool 2" is still high considering the first movie was an instant worldwide hit in theaters around the world even though it was tagged as Marvel's first R-18 movie.

The plot for "Deadpool 2" is unknown but the fact that Deadpool, Domino and Cable will be in it offers a few hints. All three were on the X-Force team for a time and Ryan Reynolds is reportedly busy trying to make a movie for it as well.
