'Skyscraper' Plot, News & Release Date: Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Stars & Produces Own Action Film
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is now leaning towards mainstream as he produces and stars in the movie "Skyscraper." The action-packed movie is set to be released on July 2018. The former wrestler says that the film is his tribute to the contributions of those involved in military service.
In "Skyscraper," Johnson will play the main character Will Ford who is an ex-FBI Hostage Rescue leader. According to IGN, Johnson's character has become a skyscraper security expert since retiring from service. The movie will be set in China and will be filmed there as well.
The action in "Skyscraper" begins when Ford is set up to be blamed for setting an important building on fire. Johnson's character then goes to great lengths to escape his jailors as he attempts to clear his name while saving his family from the burning blaze of the building.
"Skyscraper" will be released in the US on July 13, 2018. The movie which is starred and produced by Johnson is directed and written by Rawson Marshall Thurber. The action film is also co-produced by Beau Flynn. The executive producers of the film are Hiram and Dany Garcia.
Johnson's character in "Skyscraper" is reportedly inspired by war veterans and heroes. He posted a picture on Instagram and explained his astonishment for all men and women who have been and are currently in service.
Entertainment Weekly notes that Johnson did his research for "Skyscraper." He also met with various people for his role including disabled war veterans and even architects. Judging from his post and his character's job in the movie, Johnson may be filming some of his scenes at tall skyscrapers in China.
