In recent Apple News, Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Christopher Rolland thinks that Apple's 3rd-generation Apple Watch may potentially introduce cellular connectivity, which is a feature that has been long rumored for the device. More specifically, Rolland suggests that the 2017 Apple Watch will feature a SIM card for LTE connectivity, along with saying that the next-generation device will be promoted alongside the Apple AirPods.

According to Macrumors, Apple has likely been working its tail off to integrate a cellular modem to the 3rd-Generation Apple Watch for several years now but has been unable to do so because of excessive battery drain. Last year, rumors have suggested that the second-generation Apple Watch would include cellular connectivity, but it didn't pull through.

Last year's rumors have also indicated that Apple was researching low-power cellular chips intended for future versions of the 3rd-Generation Apple Watch, but was unsuccessful in making it work for the second-generation device, so the technology could now potentially be ready for inclusion in the 2017 Apple Watch.

According to Tech News Tube, the addition of standalone cellular connectivity would also mean that the Apple watch can now be used without it tethering to an iPhone, which is a process that started with the introduction of a GPS feature in the 3rd-Generation Apple Watch. Now with its own cellular connection, Apple Watch owners would not be needing an iPhone nearby in order to do things like making phone calls and stream Apple Music content, however, a separate data plan would likely be required.

Other 3rd-Generation Apple Watch 3 rumors have pointed towards an upcoming update that focuses mainly on internal hardware improvements in order to boost performance and battery life, and while we haven't been hearing much information on a third-generation device, a refresh could potentially come alongside the iPhone 8 in September this year.

The 2017 3rd-Generation Apple Watch is now independent! In addition to that, more updates will be coming to further improve the device for overall user convenience.
