Coach Ty Lue Confirms LeBron James' Minutes Won't Change Even Before Playoffs
After discussing cutting superstar LeBron James' minutes a few times in recent weeks, Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue made it clear that James' minutes won't be cut even before the playoffs begin. This is according to several league sources who chatted with Lue.
According to Fear the Sword, Lue said in an interview during Wednesday's Cavs practice that LeBron "didn't want the taper." Lue also thinks it to be crazy since earlier in the season, James declared that he wanted to play this amount of minutes. "Now he's saying 'I really need to get in playoff shape, so I need to continue to keep playing the same amount of minutes,'" Lue said.
For what it's worth, it seems like LeBron James is okay with it. In a recent interview, James expresses that he is feeling great and ready to go at any given night.
LeBron James is currently second in the league in minutes at 37.5 minutes per game, which also happen to be the most minutes that he has played ever since the 2013-14 season with the Miami Heat. However, James is only 12th in the list of overall minutes played.
For the Cleveland Cavaliers, this is a bit of a surprise. The plan was supposed to be that LeBron James would get some early rest right before the playoffs, especially considering the extreme amount of minutes that LeBron has played throughout the season, and in his entire career.
However, with his Cavs team struggling right now, LeBron James does need to play. As per Sports Media 101, the Cavaliers is better when he's on the floor, and unfortunately, injuries to key players have kept the Cavs from really playing together on a consistent basis.
It is also possible that the Cavs could rest LeBron James and other keys players like point guard Kyrie Irving right before the end of the regular season. As of now, the team still have two more back-to-back games left, which would include tomorrow's game against the Sixers.
