New York City subway passengers onboard a Queens-bound 7 train Monday night heard a loud "pop", as people described it, followed by a ball of orange as smoke rushed into the subway wagons. The people on this train and the delayed trains were in for quite the scare.

Late Monday night in the 42nd street Time Square station unsuspecting passengers waited in their seats for one of the busiest subway trains in New York, the 7 train, to leave the station. The Queens bound train never left. After almost half an hour a group of irritated and tired passengers asked the conductor what was going on. He explained there was some sort of fire at the Grand Central Station. "It was a rushing noise, like an airplane was about to ascend, followed by a ball of orange" said Christopher Brito, a PIX 11 production assistant who happened to be on the 7 train at that time. "After that, the cars began to fill with smoke and the train's power was cut off, trapping everyone on board for what must have been a very long seeming 20 minutes".

A little girl screamed and cried as she was pushed into a subway wagon full of desperate passengers rushing in. At the next station another large multitude tried to fit in the train where an older man yelled "You don't fit, get out!" in a terrified tone. A passenger held up the train even longer when he wrestled in panic with the train's door and a man trying to push him out. The subway train was so packed that there was no need to hold on to a rail. A passenger even missed his stop since he couldn't reach the door to exit in time.
