Illegal Immigrants Trapped in U.S.-Mexico Border Fall Victims by Gangs
Citizens of the United States of America have been warned to not come near the lawless U.S.-Mexico border area of Tamaulipas. The Tamaulipas state has been given the same level of alert as seen with the war-torn countries of Syria and Afghanistan.
Tamaulipas is a place where immigrants asking for asylum, who were able to reach the land of the United States of America, are held for processing.
Tamaulipas is a place where numerous illegal crossings are conducted by undocumented immigrants trying to seek asylum in the United States of America. It is also the area where the United States has returned a majority of the illegal asylum seekers who had crossed the U.S.-Mexico border. As of early October, 2019, more than 700 illegal asylum seekers have been brought to Tamaulipas.
Undocumented immigrants are required to stay at the crossroads of Tamaulipas for extended periods of time while waiting for their United States court dates.
A spokeswoman of the Department of Homeland Security released a statement to Fox News saying that the immigrant protection policies are "and will continue to be one of the most effective tools the United States has to address the crisis at the southwest border."
According to a report from the Associated Press, gangs are preying on helpless immigrants by conducting crimes such as extortion, kidnapping, and of course, illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border to collect money and strengthen their empires.
"There's probably nothing worse you could do in terms of overall security along the border. I mean, it is like the nightmare scenario," said Jeremy Slack. He is working for the University of Texas in El Paso as a geographer. He is currently studying the border, migration, and the crime associated there in, in the country of Mexico.
The Institute for Women Migration is a Mexican organization that traces cases of migrant and asylum searchers kidnappings. It had recorded a total of 212 abductions in the state of Tamaulipas from mid-July to mid-October. Out of the recorded kidnapping incidents in the state of Tamaulipas, 197 happened in the city of Nuevo Laredo. Nuevo Laredo has a population of an estimated 500,000 people. This is also an economically strategic point as this is where some international bridges are constructed to contribute to the trading economy of the country.
According to Human Rights First's, Kennji Kizuka, a researcher from its New York base, the gangs were found in the office of Mexican migration in the city of Nuevo Laredo. They were kidnapping asylum searchers who were deported from the United States of America.
As per the records of the New York-based organization Human Rights First as of August this year, one hundred violent crimes against deported asylum-seekers from the United States were reported. The number grew to 340 deported asylum-seekers from the United States in October which mostly involved extortion and abduction.
"They say 'give me 10, 15, 25.' They convey to them they are heading to just take them to a safer place, and they give them to the optimum bidder. A migrant is money for them, not a particular person," said a nun who is based in Casa del Migrante shelter in Reynosa.
