Frozen 2 is one of the most awaited movies of the year. People have been talking about it since the release of its trailer a few weeks ago. With its popularity among all ages, it is expected that Frozen 2 will be the sixth billion-dollar production released under Disney this year.

Since January of this year, Disney studios has earned eight billion dollars at the global box office, breaking the record for highest-grossing year for a studio set in 2016.

The managing editor of Fandango, Erik Davis, said that he thinks "a lot of kids are realizing how much nostalgia they have for 'Frozen'." As you may know, the original Frozen caught the attention of the all ages worldwide, and a theatre was even made because of the popularity that it garnished.

Frozen 2 will be played in different movie houses worldwide on Friday and is expected to surpass the record set by the original Frozen, which was released on 2013, earning 400 million dollars at the domestic box office.

And who can forget the movie that introduced beloved characters such as Princess Anna and Queen Elsa? Of course if you have watched the first installment, the characters are still fresh in your mind. Overall, the film earned 1.2 billion dollars worldwide, and was awarded the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2014.

In an article published in CNBC, it is projected that the movie will earn an estimated 120 million to 140 million US dollars during its opening week. The senior analyst of Camscore, Paul Dergarabedian, said in a separate statement that he expects the film to earn upwards of 100 million dollars during its weekend opening.

In a report from Atom Tickets, Frozen 2 has sold more tickets than the combined tickets sold for the animated films Incredibles 2 and Toy Story 4. Most of all, it also surpassed the number of tickets sold compared to the Lion King and Aladdin. The report was based on the same number of days before the movies were released.

Moreover, Frozen 2 can replace the Incredibles 2 as the most watched film in North America if it earns more than 182.6 million dollars during its first three days in theatres.

According to the chief analyst of Boxoffice.com, Shawn Robbins, "Disney captured lightning in a bottle with ['Frozen'], which is a hard precedent to live up to," The analyst even added that the gap of Frozen and Frozen 2 is six years and the animated film has not transitioned into a new generation. Remember that the intended generation of the original Frozen has grown quite a bit.

Davis, an analyst who viewed the film, told CNBC that Frozen 2 is going to surprise a lot of people, especially the older kids. Davis even added that only few animated films were able to target the preteen audience, as most animated films are geared towards the younger generations and not to the different demographics in terms of age.
