49ers Broadcaster Suspended Over Controversial Remarks on Lamar Jackson's Skin Color
Tim Ryan, a radio host for the San Francisco 49ers, has been suspended following his comments on a Bay Area Sports talk show that Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens quarterback, is great at faking because of his dark skin with a dark football.
In a published article in Fox News, Ryan was asked about Jackson's outstanding performance that led the Ravens to a victory against the 49ers on Sunday. His remarks during the first few minutes of his weekly segment with KNBR's "Murph and Mac" was mostly focused on the great performance of both teams, but then he made the comment that shocked everyone.
Jackson had an outstanding performance during the game who put over 100 rushing yards and led his team in 20-17 victory over the 49ers. The game was very crucial because they are fighting for the best spot in the league. Moreover, Lamar Jackson is one of the frontrunners in the NFL's Most Valuable Player.
However, despite his outstanding performance, Tim Ryan made a comment that shuttered the Black community when he said, "He's really good at that fake, Lamar Jackson, but when you consider his dark skin with a dark football with a dark uniform, you could not see that thing and I mean you literally could not see when he was in and out of the mesh point, and if you're a half step slow on him in terms of your vision, forget about it, he's out of the gate."
His remarks somehow hurt those who belong in the Black community because Tim Ryan's comment was somehow a form of racist by discriminating against the color or tone of the skin of Lamar Jackson. Meanwhile, San Francisco addressed this issue already by suspending Tim Ryan for the upcoming game because of his disappointing comments. They said that they are not tolerating actions such as this and they condemn racism in the radio station.
Tim Ryan also made a separate statement, he said "I regret my choice of words in trying to describe the conditions of the game and Lamar Jackson is an MVP-caliber player and I respect him greatly. I want to sincerely apologize to him and anyone else I offended."
It can be remembered that before Tim Ryan landed as a radio host in the San Francisco 49ers, he was a former linebacker who played from 1990 to 1993 with the Chicago Bears. He also worked as a Fox TV analyst and covered 12 NFL seasons. After it, he joined the 49ers in 2014 as a radio color commentator.
During his segment on Monday, he complimented the efforts of the Ravens and the 49ers. However, he just did a mistake when he gave an unacceptable comment. San Francisco 49ers also said that they have reached out already to the Ravens to extend their apologies and assure them that Tim Ryan's action will be dealt with accordingly.
The suspension of Tim Ryan in the San Francisco 49ers was also published in the San Francisco Chronicle. The team officials of 49ers confirmed that they are very disappointed with Tim Ryan and they will suspend him for the upcoming game.
The 49ers official said "We hold Tim to a high standard as a representative of our organization and he must be more thoughtful with his words. Tim has expressed remorse in a public statement and has also done so with us privately and we know Tim as a man of high integrity and are confident he will grow and learn from this experience."
The Ravens also confirmed that the 49ers extended their apologies and was also given an assurance that the incident will not be taken lightly.
