Republican Yolanda Waters Send Racist Text, Now She May Have to Resign
A Republican Party leader is being pressured to resign from her position by some of her co-leaders. This issue had risen when a more-than-a-month old text message was sent by Chairperson Yolanda Waters of the Galveston County Republican Party to an affiliate of the State Republican Executive Committee named J. T. Edwards. She had called Edwards a 'typical n-' in her text sent on March 27th.
The screenshot of her text message had been circulating online last weekend and her use of the n-word had offended people for the use of such words.
Waters identifies herself to be from Latino and African origins.
In her defense, she claims that the text message with the n-word was a typographical error that she had committed when she was typing fast on her phone.
In a public statement she made with the New York Daily News, she said that she normally types fast. She had overlooked the n-word that she mistakenly placed in her text message. She admitted to not proofreading her text message before sending it. She also expressed her belief that using the n-word when talking about a fellow black-American is inappropriate.
According to a statement that she released to the Galveston Daily News, she is sad and hurt to those who see her as "racist" against her people with the same heritage as her.
In the text message that was first publicly released by the Galveston County Daily News last Saturday, it was shown how Waters had complained that Edwards was requesting funding for a trip to a meeting in Austin.
According to Waters' text message, she's frustrated that Edwards is always asking his peers for money even if it was directly coming from their own pockets and not anymore from the party's funds. And the conversation goes on until she had dropped the n-word when she was asked why Edwards is not working for his own money.Edwards had released to the public a very long statement as a response to the text message issue of Waters.
According to the statement of Edwards, he said that one of the members of the Republican Party had viewed a solicitation for raising funds for a political cause as "typical" behavior of those belonging to his race. He expressed his shock upon learning of the issue. He said that the incident is the opposite of their party's principles. He expressed that what's "typical" of him is being a typical Republican Party affiliate and he said it with pride and honor.
Regardless of the apology given by Waters, Edwards expressed his firm disbelief in her explanation.
According to Edwards, he wants Yolanda Waters to resign from the Republican Party. He said that leaders shouldn't be very unprofessional as what Waters had done.
Some people were using autocorrect functions on mobile phones but Edwards still doesn't believe Waters' story.
Edwards said that he had received a message of apology from Yolanda Waters and that he was able to learn of the text message at the beginning of November. He admits that he is not the person who had leaked the message. The statement that Edwards released bears a date of November 16, 2019.
