A Decade ago, a destructive earthquake had hit Haiti. It turned Port-au-Prince, it's capital city into a place of unimaginable destruction. Approximately 70,000 bodies were discovered a week after the disaster and thousands more were discovered in the following weeks.

She described that during that time intense shaking was felt and the noise was deafening. She shared that the experience felt like a similar event that happened in the United States of America. She said that the dust was everywhere. Thick dust particles covered their car.

Chandler's daughter during that time asked her if they were going to lose their lives. She didn't give a definite answer to her daughter's questions but she assured that if they do, they'll be together. Her daughter stopped throwing questions after that conversation.

Based on the statement released by the US Geological Survey, the earthquake that occurred on that day took less than thirty seconds before it stopped. The results of the almost-30-second-earthquake were depressing. The help provided by the many nations of the world gave the people of Haiti hope.

Chandler remembered working in a tent of open-air because the company's offices in the country were destroyed by the earthquake.

Millions of donations came from international donors. The total donations collection for the reconstruction of Haiti was approximately $10 billion. The result of the earthquake's aftermath was due to the weak structure of the buildings in Haiti. When the earthquake struck, the poorly built structures feel down on their inhabitants.

According to the head of Sacre Coeur Hospital in Milot, Harold Prévil, he felt hopeful after the devastating earthquake because he believes that after recovery from the earthquake, the people will change for the better.

Ten years after the earthquake, people shared that they are less hopeful for their country compared to the past.

According to the present president of the country, Jovenel Moise, Haiti had improved. He said that regardless of the country's efforts to reconstruct their country after the devastating earthquake, the scars from the event will forever remain in its people. After ten years since the incident, the country still has the insufficient infrastructure and other services for the betterment of the people of Haiti.
