Katy Perry is on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine's July issue, where she opens up about getting over her past relationships and reveals the longest she has gone without sex.

In the recent interview with Chelsea Handler, the "Dark Horse" hitmaker talked about her short-lived, 14-month marriage to Russell Brand and struggle to cope with divorce in the summer of 2012. "It feels like a hundred lifetimes ago, so it's like digging up an old grave," she said. "A lot of therapy has happened and a lot of understanding and growth.

"Sometimes you have to go through all this shit to get your grips on life and figure out what the next boundaries in your love life are going to be," she said. "You have to go through the mud in order to find that peaceful place. In the long run, it was necessary for me to have more of a teammate."

The 29-year-old singer then discussed her most recent, highly publicized breakup with John Mayer last February. "I know it sounds really hippy-shit, but I'm living in the now and not fantasizing about the future or [being] torn up about the past," Perry said. "I have a lot of respect for [John] still, and I know it goes both ways. There's no bad blood, but I'm sure there will be inspired songs."

The colorful singer also admitted that she does not have rules when it comes to sex. "I'm not like Professor Higgins with my sex life: I'm not super strict. For me, the most important thing about sex is connection."

Moreover, Katy Perry revealed the longest she has ever gone without having sex and insisted that she would never have a one-night stand. "Maybe six months or a year. I don't stay single for long. I carry a lot of rose quartz, which attracts the male. Maybe I need to calm it down with the amethyst."
