Japanese Billionaire Yusaku Maezawa Cancels Real-Life Dating Show

An incredible 27,722 women applied to become the lifetime partner of  Japanese billionaire, Yusaku Maezawa. The plan was to find a girl who will be in a relationship with him and travel with him to the moon. On Thursday, he announced that he had not yet found the right one for him. 

About the announcement

According to a social media post on Thursday made by Maezawa, 44, he was regretful making the announcement. He announced that he was ending the TV project of finding the right girl for him. After thousands of hopefuls were courageous enough to participate in the event, he was sad to make the announcement. 

His recently piloted TV show was similar to the "Bachelor" and allowed women age 20 and above to apply for the series named 'Full Moon Lovers.' 

In his social media post, he also announced that his docuseries would also discontinue. He explained that he was uncertain for the continuance of the series, so he decided to postpone it indefinitely. 

The Japanese billionaire was chosen by Elon Musk in 2018 to become the first-ever civilian passenger of SpaceX rocket. It is scheduled to fly to the moon in 2023.

Who is Yusaku Maezawa?

Many rich people appropriate a portion of their riches to sponsor scientific studies or make donations to medical centers and educational institutions. Yusaku Maezawa is a different type of billionaire. 

At the beginning of the year, Maezawa released yet another social media post. He had announced that he would be giving $9 million to a selected few from his Twitter followers list. He will be doing this experiment to determine the whether or not money can truly make a person happier.

The Japanese billionaire was the center of news reports with his purchase of the first flight of SpaceX to the moon in 2018.

During an interview in 2004, he shared that he observed exhausted faces during his regular morning commute. The image inspired him to skip going to college after graduating from Waseda Jitsugyo High School. This move allowed him to escape living as a white-collar worker in his adult life. 

After graduating from high school, he moved to the United States of America with his then-girlfriend. He soon moved back to Japan.

He used his interest in music as his inspiration in establishing his first business. He piloted a Compact Disk mail-order company in 1995. His first sales came from his collection that he kept while he was staying in the United States.

The Japanese billionaire also had a career in music in the punk rock genre. His stage name was 'You X Suck.' In the 1990s, he played the drums for a rock band named Switch Style.

In one of  Switch Style's videos in 1997 during their "...To Infinity" concert tour, he can be seen headbanging while he was playing the drums.

Their group had issued an EP in 1995. After that album, he announced that he would be leaving his music career for the meantime.

In 2018, he founded a business in the clothing industry. Maezawa is the founder of Zozotown. It is an online fashion selling business based in Japan.
