Soccer Transfer Rumors & News 2014: Luis Suarez Headed to Bernabeu Next Season?
Real Madrid is reportedly serious in their pursuit of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez as reports indicated that the Champions League holders are willing to break the bank this summer.
Previous reports indicated that Liverpool are determined to keep Suarez for another run next season after a promising season this year, but Real Madrid is reportedly preparing an offer that will be very hard to turn down.
In order to acquire Suarez, Real Madrid will have to match the transfer record £80 million, which was the amount they spent to get Gareth Bale last summer.
"The Uruguayan bagged an outstanding 31 goals for the Merseysiders last season and although he is happy at Anfield, Real were ready to test the waters," Mirror UK reported. "But they have now been told they will have to cough up £80million to sign him -- the same fee they paid for Gareth Bale last summer."
Previous reports indicated that Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has already given the transfer the green light after Los Blancos president Florentino Perez named Suarez as his top target this summer.
Karim Benzema Not Worried About Suarez's Impending Arrival
Karim Benzema had an impressive season for Real Madrid, scoring 17 goals and nine assists in their La Liga campaign, but Suarez's arrival could hurt his stock next season.
Suarez netted 31 goals in 33 Premier League games last season, which would make him a strong candidate to become Real's first-choice striker starting next season, but Benzema insisted that he is not losing sleep over the Uruguay international's possible transfer.
"Everyone can come, and all the more to Madrid where all the best come. I work every day to play for Madrid. I don't feel any particular pressure," Benzema said via ESPN FC. "He's a great player who had a great season, but in football, you have to be capable of producing several of them. But he's a great player, and if he comes, he'll help us."
