One Gun Shot Hurts 7: Shooting in Houston during Family Dance

A man was shot and six others were injured after a gunshot was fired in a flea market while a dance event was being held in the evening of Sunday in Houston, according to an article from CNN.

The Crime Scene

Sheriff's deputies had reported that seven people in the shooting in Houston were affected by the gunshots at the Mercado SabaDomingo flea market located in the northern part of the city. It was also reported that the incident occurred around seven o'clock in the evening during a family dance event.

The investigators of the crime revealed that only one individual was shot from the shooting in Houston. They revealed that the man who was at the family dance event was shot in the leg. Six other individuals also received injuries from the event when the bullet passed through the leg of the man and hurt other people in the event. The six people received minor and non-critical wounds from the incident.

All of the seven individuals who were affected in the incident were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals.

In the crime scene, lots of children were found in the area. The children were reported to have been joining the dance. None of the children who participated in the dance receive injuries in the incident.

According to the sheriff, the results of the incident could have been worse. He believes that the outcome of the incident, with only one person being seriously injured, was a miracle. He was glad that no children were affected by the incident.

The Suspect

A man, the suspect to the crime, was detained when he was found at the shooting in the Houston crime scene. He is currently under questioning by the sheriff.

The man was captured by the authorities after one witness from the family dance event reported that he saw the man in possession of a gun before the gunshot was fired and heard. The suspect then answered interrogations and admitted that he have a gun but said that it was in his pocket.

According to the sheriff, the suspect has been drinking during the event. The story he told was not consistent with the evidence gathered by the investigators. The sheriff then commented that a combination of guns and alcohol are not a good combination.

The investigators of the crime are trying to determine if the suspect had intentionally fired the shot or the gunshot was accidental.

The United States of America holds the 28th place in 2017 with the highest number of deaths from gun violence in the world. This means that out of 100,000 residents, 4.43 deaths are recorded from gun violence incidents. This is an alarming truth compared to other first world countries.

Per US state, the rates of death from gun violence are even greater. In Colombia, 16.34 people in every 100,000 individuals lose their lives from gun violence. This is the highest reported rate in the entire United States.

The gunshot violence rate in Texas is close to the national rate at 4.74 deaths per 100,000 people. Also, Ohio reports similar statistics with 4.60 deaths from gun violence out of 100,000 citizens.
