Deputy Health Minister Hugo Lopez-Gatell confirmed that there are seven cases of COVID-19 and 30 other individuals are still under observation.

Cases of COVID-19 has spiked in almost all parts of the world despite the preventive measures set by many countries to control the entry of the infectious virus.

The virus that originated in China has infected nearly 10,000 individuals in different countries and many who have seen to possess the COVID-19 symptoms are still confined and quarantined in the different hospitals in an attempt to control the virus.

The infectious virus has already entered in Mexico. During a press conference, Health Minister Hugo Lopez-Gatell confirmed five men and two women infected with the virus. Among the COVID-19 patients, one of them is a 71-year-old who has the most serious condition.

Director-General of Public Health Promotion Ricardo Cortes Alcala said that 85 percent of COVID-19 cases in the country have mild symptoms. This is the same situation as what other countries have.

Meanwhile, the seventh person who is infected with the virus is a 46-year-old man and lives in Mexico. According to the Health Minister that the person was infected by having contact with a person in the United States. Moreover, the rest of the COVID-19 cases traveled in Italy.

In a published article in Mexicanist, Lopez-Gatell said that Mexicans should be prepared for a longtime epidemic as the cases might continue to increase.

In line with the COVID-19 cases, the first recorded death of the infectious virus in Latin America was a 64-year-old man from Argentina who traveled to Southern France. It was also found out that the case was only confirmed on Mar.

Due to the spiking number of COVID-19 cases in Mexico, some entry points like airports have already set their preventive measures in an attempt to control the spread of the virus most especially people who came from the United States, China, European countries, and other countries that have confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The Health Minister already confirmed that the proposed fund during the National Health Council already approved. This is to make sure that if the virus will be declared a global pandemic, there will be available funds to be used to purchase surgical masks, gloves, and other medical supplies.

What are the recommendations to prevent COVID-19?

  • Frequently wash your hands with soap and water or use 70 percent alcohol-based gel.
  • Cover your mouth when sneezing or coughing. However, it is recommended to use surgical masks if you have cough and colds or exposed to someone who has this sickness.
  • Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose, and mouth when hands are dirty.
  • Make sure to frequently disinfect commonly touched the surface in your office, home, transportation area, and the likes.
  • Most of all, you have to stay at home if you are not feeling well or if you are having a fever, headache, sore throat, and runny nose.

It is also important to note to avoid exposing yourself from a crowded area as it increases the chance of getting the infectious virus.
