Beach Goers in Florida Ignore COVID-19 Precautions
Clearwater Beach in Florida was packed with visitors, mostly students, despite the advice from Pres. Trump and CDC to avoid mass gatherings and practice social distancing.
Pres. Trump's administration is trying its best to slow down the spread of coronavirus pandemic that continues to swell in the United States. However, it seems that some are not taking this global health issue seriously.
Despite the warnings given by Pres. Trump and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, many crowds still came at the beach even though some beaches on the east coast were closed because of COVID-19.
It appears that many are not heeding to follow the advice by avoiding mass gatherings and practice social-distancing to help the government in slowing down the number of COVID-19 cases in the country. Many crowds gathered last weekend despite the warnings given.
It was also observed that many of the sun worshippers were seen lying on the sun and are not practicing social distancing while others were seen wading in the surf. Many visitors in the Clearwater Beach in Florida were seen roaming and appeared not practicing social distancing.
In the United States alone, there have been more than 4,500 cases of persons who were tested positive for coronavirus and a death toll of 79 deaths that continues to spike according to a recently published article. It is the main reason why Pres. Trump strict guidelines about social distancing and mass gatherings. Recently, it was reported that five counties in the Bay Area are now implementing a "Stay at Home" policy to help the government mitigate the virus.
Meanwhile, some cities and states have responded to the call of the President. Some closed the schools, restaurants, and venues for large crowds were temporarily closed until the virus is contained. Through this, they can help the government to combat the coronavirus epidemic.
However, despite the effort of the government, hundreds of college students went to the beach and defied the order of the police officers to stop partying. It seems that they are not taking the problem seriously. Instead of staying at home, they took advantage of this time by going to crowded places where there is a greater risk to be infected with the virus.
Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber declared that the spring break is over following the declaration of the state of emergency. This means that beaches in Miami were supposed to be closed from 4:30 in the afternoon on Saturday until March 19. But, visitors and students continued their beach celebration during the weekend.
The number of infected persons in the state of Florida is very alarming. There are around 149 cases of persons who have COVID-19 and this is expected to increase. Most of the patients are teens in their early twenties. While four people already died because of the virus.
Despite the warnings from the CDC, many college students came to the beach on Sunday. It is not a surprise anymore if the number of cases of persons who are positive for coronavirus will spike. They have been told and warned and yet they don't care any of the warnings give at all.
