The Temporary Suspension of Deliveries
The temporary suspension of deliveries is effective until April 5. The reason for this decision by the e-commerce giant is to help the nation combat the threats of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the statement given by a spokesperson of Amazon, the company will be putting the priority on household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products. These products will be prioritized in the company's different fulfillment centers. This will allow the company to effectively and immediately receive, restock, and deliver the products to their customers.
Their Selling Partners
According to the spokesperson of the company, they know that the changes the company is implementing are affecting their online selling partners. They expressed their gratitude for understanding the situation about the postponement of the delivery of their goods.
Seeing Worldwide Panic Buying Situations
The company decided to temporarily postpone the delivery of goods except for the products previously mentions due to the online content showing the increased shopping activities of people from different parts of the world. The company witnessed how the items being bought by shoppers are quickly going out of stock in physical stores. These products include cleaning products and other necessities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Factories Shutting Down
Merchants are already experiencing strains of selling their products. One seen cause for this event was the shutting down of many factories in China due to the deadly novel coronavirus outbreak.
Since China is already getting a better grasp of handling the COVID-19 pandemic in their country, some of the factories that previously closed are opening up. However, merchants will need to determine what they will do with their products due to the decision of the company to postpone the delivery of certain goods.
The Shipments
According to Amazon, the products already on their way to the company's warehouses will still be accepted and shipped. However, no other products will be accepted by the company's warehouses in the coming three weeks.
Options for Independent Merchants
Independent merchant is permitted to sell their goods through Amazon. However, the merchants will not be allowed to use the company's warehouses. This will make it difficult for these merchants to find a warehouse for their goods.
The seller and vendor partners of Amazon will be notified once normal operations resume.
Raise and Job Openings
On Monday, Amazon announced it will be giving 100,000 new jobs in the United States as a response to the increasing demand for delivery services.
The jobs will be for the different fulfillment centers of the company. This is the company's response to the increasing need for the services of the company, especially to those who are at high risk of going out.
The company will also be giving a raise to their employees on their hourly rate until April due to the inclining trend of the need for their services.
