Mexico is the best country in Latin America that values water as a consumption inside and outside their home according to a recently published
article.

Water Consumption of Mexicans

In a new study conducted by Kantar company, it was found that Mexico is the top country in Latin America that buys water the most. The result of the study was revealed as part of the World Water Day that is celebrated every March 22 every year.

It was found out in the study that Mexican homes purchase more than 1,400 liters of water every day and they are followed by Ecuador, Bolivia, and Peru.

Another evidence that supports the result of the claim that Mexican households purchase more water compared to other countries in Latin America is another highlight of the study which revealed that eight pesos in every ten pesos spent by a Mexican household in water are used as home consumption.

This clearly manifests how Mexicans value the importance of water. It is common knowledge that drinking water more than the usually recommended number of glasses is very important to keep a person's body hydrated. It is no longer a surprise why Mexico is among one of the countries in the world that performs best in health according to the Legatum Prosperity Index.

According to Mariana Cruz, a member of Kantar Mexico's Worldpanel Division, "Considering the consumption within the home, we saw that eight out of every 10 times that water is used, it is bottled. Of which 64% of the times is drunk, while 36% is for cooking mainly rice and soup."

It was also highlighted in the result of the study that Mexicans drink water based on the following percentages while they are inside their home:

  • 38 percent during lunchtime
  • 26 percent during breakfast
  • 20 percent during dinner

Another reason why Mexicans drink more water rather than soda or other drinking products because it is healthy and it will not compromise their health.

Cruz added that while Mexicans are in their homes, 68 percent consumed bottled water, 18 percent had fruit drinks, while 21 percent had water with lemon occasionally, and the remaining 16 percent preferred Jamaica water.

Moreover, it was also found out that more Mexicans now are buying bottled water outside their home. There was an increase in water demand in convenience stores, stalls, and vendors on the street in 2019. Seven out of ten Mexicans bought water outside their home.
