World Cup Song 2014: Jennifer Lopez Won't Be Performing at Ceremony in Brazil
Someone will be noticeably absent for the World Cup opening ceremony.
Jennifer Lopez has pulled out of the performance because of "production issues," the Daily Mail noted. No further explanation was given. In an email to the Daily Mail, Lopez's representatives simply said, "Regretfully Jennifer Lopez will not be attending this year's World Cup opening ceremonies."
This won't put a damper on the opening ceremony, though.
FIFA said that Cuban rapper Pitbull and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte will still sing "We Are One." Although it didn't explain how it would handle Lopez, who is prominently featured in the song, missing the performance. The World Cup kicks off on Thursday with Brazil taking on Croatia in Sao Paulo.
There already has been a lot of controversy surrounding this song.
Brazilians expressed their disappointment, especially through social media. Some were upset that Brazil was very poorly represented. For example, Leitte only sings in Portuguese at the end of the song. Others thought it was too stereotypical. And another group preferred Shakira, who also released a song for the World Cup. A Twitter campaign, where people asked for the Colombian singer's 2010 World Cup song, even trended on the social media platform.
Lopez is also going through some difficult personal moments.
This past week she and boyfriend of more than two years Casper Smart broke up. And this weekend, he was seen packing his things from Lopez's home.
According to People, a source said that Smart was "upset about the split. He really wanted to stay with Jennifer. He loves her and her kids."
Smart returned from Mexico and began packing his things on Friday in Los Angeles.
"He gets to keep all the gifts that Jennifer bought him, including the customized truck that she gave him for his 25th birthday," the source said. "Jennifer has always been very generous, and Casper has bags of things to move out."
