Iggy Azalea News 2014: 'Fancy' Star Slams Lorde's Nirvana Tribute, Says 'I Don't Think It Was Appropriate'
Iggy Azalea, an outspoken female rapper who does not hesitate to express herself and voice her opinion, slams Lorde for her recent tribute to Nirvana.
The "Royals" hitmaker was honorably chosen to give a collaborative performance with the surviving members of the legendary grunge rock band at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which took place in Brooklyn, New York City, on April 10. The 17-year-old singer finished out the set with "All Apologies," following Joan Jett, St. Vincent, Kim Gordon and Annie Clark each singing a Nirvana hit, filling in for lead singer Kurt Cobain with drummer Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic.
A month after the event, Iggy Azalea spoke out that she had a problem with the New Zealand singer's tribute to the late Kurt Cobain, even labeling her performance as "inappropriate."
"Nothing against her, but I think when you're doing a tribute to someone that's dead, generally it should be the person's peer," she said. "Lorde is not Kurt Cobain's peer. No matter if she killed the performance or not, I just don't think it's inappropriate."
On the other hand, while the Australian emcee is criticizing with her, Lorde previously defended Azalea earlier this year when she blasted Complex Magazine for throwing the 24-year-old rapper "under the bus" with a harsh review after profiling her. At the time, Azalea responded to the "Pure Heroine" singer via Twitter: I agree @lordemusic media LOVE to flop about, But when you're completely spineless Im sure its hard to stick to even ur own opinion #GoGirl."
Meanwhile, Iggy Azalea proudly celebrates her reigning at both No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts for the second straight week with her smash hit "Fancy" featuring Charli XCX.
