Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are planning to buy the major league baseball franchise of the New York Mets with a little help from friends, according to a recently published article.

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez Forming Group to Buy Mets

There are many reports recently that Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez were forming a group of persons to pay the upfront fee of the major franchise of Mets. Additionally, J-Rod could buy the MLB team on a very steep amount due to COVID-19.

The future of MLB is still uncertain until now its games remain suspended due to the global health pandemic. A reliable source said that the Wilpon family, who owns the team, has been trying to sell the team for months, and they might consider a meager amount.

J-Rod hired the JP Morgan Chase to raise funds for buying the team. One of the key players to successfully buy 80 percent of Mets is the Miami billionaire Jorge Mas. It can be recalled that Mas attempted to buy the Miami Marlins in 2017 but lost to a group led by Derek Jeter, a former teammate of A-Rod.

Jorge Mas is included in America's 20 most influential CEOs, aged 40 years old below. Forbes estimated his net worth to be around $1.52 billion. Mas is not new in buying a sports franchise. He owns a large part of David Beckham's bid in Major League Soccer's latest franchise, Inter Miami.

Recent Suitor of Mets and Reasons in Selling the Team

It was reported last year that Steve Cohen, who has a net worth of $13.9 billion, is supposed to buy 80 percent of the team, but for some reason, the negotiations did not end up successful. It is also not clear if Cohen is still interested in buying a significant share of the team.

A reliable source said that the Wilpons Family is a motivated seller, most notably in this time of the global pandemic, where there is no revenue at all. This means that because of the stringent restrictions of mass gatherings, there are no games allowed in a stadium.

This caused the Mets to earn less from tickets and other sources of income inside the stadium. It was also found that the Wilpons have had cash flow problems for years. Even if the season is cut by half this year, the family will still struggle to meet the expenses of the team.

Moreover, the Mets declined to give comments about the amount they will have earned if they have at least 50 home games though there are speculations that they can make $150 million. It is not enough to pay their financial obligations that cost an estimated $170 million.

A reliable source who is closed to Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez said: "They see this as a chance to build a brand. They want to turn the Mets into a powerhouse and CitiField into a concert venue that rivals Madison Square Garden. A summer MSG."

If the negotiations for buying the franchise go well, it could be pleasing to the ears of Mets fans. However, any deals have to be signed off by MLB and other owners.
