Jeremy Lin Offseason News, Contract & Trade Options: Top 5 Teams That Could Use Jeremy Lin
Jeremy Lin continues to make NBA trade headlines. Both Lin and Omer Asik have been in trade conversations lately and the Rockets are "confident they can move Lin and Asik to create more cap space."
It may be best for all sides involved, considering how the Rockets play offense. Lin doesn't fit coach Kevin McHale's system and freeing up cap space could only help. As far as Asik's status, he is due nearly $15 million next season. Both players are young and talented, but the Rockets aren't getting their value.
Here's five teams where Lin could flourish if traded to:
Indiana Pacers
Three straight years this team has lost to the Miami Heat in the postseason. The Pacers are good, but something is missing; ball movement certainly being an example. The Pacers already have a championship-caliber defense, so bringing in Lin would ignite a subpar offense that appears stuck in the mud at times. George Hill isn't getting the job done.
Memphis Grizzlies
The Indiana Pacers of the Western Conference. The Grizzlies already have an elite defense led by Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph, but lack the scoring and speed to compete for the title. Bringing in Lin would take pressure off the Grizzlies' front court to do so much of the scoring. The Grizzlies would also benefit with television ratings, as they do play in a small market.
Los Angeles Lakers
Why not? The Lakers are no longer the face of the NBA and Kobe Bryant isn't getting any younger. It's a tough Western Conference so it could be worth a try to bring in a young, proven point guard to revamp the purple and gold. Having Lin handle the ball would take a lot of strain off Kobe and his leg.
Chicago Bulls
Obviously Derrick Rose is the face of the franchise. He's a Chicago native, born and raised. The franchise selected him No. 1 overall in the 2008 draft. But, the reality is he's not getting any healthier on the court. The Bulls cannot go into another season without an insurance policy behind Rose. It's just not fair to their fans. Signing Lin wouldn't solve all the Bulls' issues, but it would make them a better team.
Utah Jazz
This could be really interesting. The Jazz and Rockets could work a deal for both Lin and Asik for draft picks and players. The Jazz could use both a point guard and a big man. John Stockton and Karl Malone aren't walking through those doors. Energy Solutions Arena and Salt Lake City could use a boost from Linsanity.
