Today is the commemoration of Cinco de Mayo, a famous holiday celebration in the United States. However, many people do not know exactly what it celebrates. Mainly, this is more than just feasting on food and dancing with colorful wardrobes.

More essentially, this date, May 5, marks the celebration of "a single battle," specifically, the Mexican army's victory over France in 1862, "at the Battle of Puebla."

2013 - Paul McCartney Performed Never-Before-Heard Beatles Songs 

On this date in 2013, Paul McCartney performed live in Brazil, Beatles Songs, which were not performed in the past. He did this during his world tour's opening night.

It was in 1966 when the Beatles stopped touring. This meant many of their songs had never been sung in front of their live audiences. Among the songs McCartney sang in 2013 included "All Together Now," "Your Mother Should Know," and "Lovely Rita."

2010 - Cuba Government Allows Tourism Investment

On May 5, 2010, the Cuban government agreed to allow foreign firms to invest in tourism through the development of marinas and golf courses, among other tourist sectors. 

This initiative was made to boost the economy of Cuba by inviting more wealthy "travelers with better facilities."

2009 - Popular Feminist Dies in the US

Marilyn French, a prominent name in feminism, died in New York of heart failure when she was 79 years old. She was the author of "The Women's Room." As such, she had worked on a new novel, as well as a memoir before her death.

2007 - Paris Hilton's 45-Day Imprisonment

Labeled as the "hotel heiress," Paris Hilton was sentenced to 45-day imprisonment after she violated her probation by driving without a license. 

Relatively, the celebrity was reportedly speeding with the headlights off while her license was suspended due to the previous charge of driving drunk when the police caught her.

1960 - Princess Margaret and Anthony Armstrong Jones Wed

Princess of England, Margaret wedded Antony Armstrong Jones in a grand royal wedding held at the Westminster Abbey. 

In this unforgettable celebration during the 1960s, thousands of people lined the London streets in anticipation to see the royal couple. This was the first time, in 400 years, that a king's daughter married a common or ordinary person.

1955 - Half a Million People in the UK Receive Polio Vaccine

More than 500,000 people in the United Kingdom received the "Salk polio vaccine." This was also the dame date in 1955 when there had been a sharp increase in the demand for the vaccine. However, the local health departments have reportedly run out, resulting in an order for "an extra million doses.

1940 - Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain of Great Britain Promises Cooperation 

In 1940 on this date, Prime Minister Chamberlain promised immediate cooperation between the armed forces, following the invasion of German of Norway under the governance of "The First Lord of the Admiralty Winston Churchill."

1945 - Japanese Balloon Bomb Kills People in the US

What transpired on this date in the middle of the 1940s, was the explosion of a Japanese balloon bomb at the Mitchell Recreation Area located on Gearhart Mountain in Oregon. The incident killed five children and a minister's wife who was pregnant at that time.

1924 - Pirates Captured, Killed in Hong Kong

On May 5, 1924, more than 30 pirates who had been grabbing ships the cargo in Hong Kong waters were reportedly captured and shot by Chinese authorities. This occurrence was part of the then-ongoing suppression on pirates who were operating in the waters of China.
