New Mexico Governor breaks her own rule by purchasing jewelry during her stay-at-home order, according to a recently published article.

New Mexico Ordered People to Stay-At-Home

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham ordered during the early days of April to stay-at-home and to close the non-essential businesses in the state in an attempt to stop the contagion of COVID-19 that has dramatically impacted New Mexico. She also announced that New Mexicans are only allowed to go out buying essentials such as food and medicines. During the press conference on April 3, she said: "We are in really tough financial times as a state. It mirrors the incredible, personal sacrifices that happen every single day because people have limited their ability to work, telecommuting and many people, in fact, have lost their jobs."

However, a news outlet found out that just days after the announcement or one week before the Easter, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham called an employee at Lilly Barrack to purchase expensive jewelry even amid her order to temporarily shut down the non-essential businesses.

Store Owner Gave Her Comment, Office of the Governor Has a Different Version of Story

The person who is running the Lily Barrack store gave a comment following the news about the state governor ordered expensive jewelry amid the state lockdown. The owner said that she did not know about it until after it happened. According to the story told by the owner, the jewelry was bought over the phone by the governor who had a longstanding relationship with the employee. After purchasing the order, the employee went to the store and placed the jewelry outside the door of the store where someone who knew the governor picked it up.

However, the state governor refused to answer the allegation through an on-camera interview. Instead, her office answered and emailed saying: "Lujan Grisham did call an employee, saying they had a longstanding personal relationship. The employee came here [Lilly Barrack], got the jewelry and took it home, left it outside their home and then someone came and picked it up," A completely different story from what the store owner said.

State Governor Criticized for Purchasing Expensive Jewelry

Steve Pearce, State Republican party chairman, told a news outlet that it was "really disgraceful, especially since so many people have been hurting for so long." Alex Thompson also tweeted on her social media account and wrote," Uh-oh. Days after NM Gov. Lujan Grisham issued a stay-at-home order, 'a non-essential business opened up so she could buy jewelry and have it delivered to her.' And her office's explanation is quite tortured."

However, the spokesperson of the State Governor asserted in a report that there was no violation committed since the transaction was done without human contact. The spokesperson said: "None of the state's public health orders have restricted the conduct of business operations in which an employee only interacts with clients or customers remotely."

Either the transaction was done remotely or not, it is very unethical for a law implementor to violate her own rules. Meanwhile, the state governor purchased expensive jewelry without putting a person's health at risk. There are no reports yet if Go. Grisham will be facing charges about the said allegation.
