A Chilling Call to 911 Was Played on Court
The recorded phone call from the mother of the killer who called the 911 was played on the court as the basis of the judge in making a decision either to put him on jail or not to Anthony Kaptzan who murdered his own father and attempted to kill his mother as well. In a recorded 911 phone call played on the court, she said: "He just went very pale and he almost just passed out in the kitchen. He told us he saw his life almost pass before his eyes." Ivette Kaptzan, the mother, also told the caller that her son was pale, sweating, and lethargic.
Additionally, during their phone call, the caller from 911 asked her if she needs paramedics. She refused the offer and said: "I think I'm going to pass on it for now. He's giving me mixed messages," She also added that he was feeling okay. Her statement was completely different from the previous one where she said that she was concern about her son's physical well-being.
Moreover, she called 911 again for the seocnd time in just half an hour and said: "My son is having an episode. Please send the police!" It was found out later on that during her second call, her son was making guttural screams.
The Call Became the Centerpiece of the Court's Decision forBail
The 911 call being played on the court became the centerpiece of the judge's decision either to give Anthony Kaptzan a bail or not. Following the horrifying calling and the inconsistency of her mother's statement, the judge released an order. During the court hearing on Thursday afternoon, the judge ordered that the he will be held in jail while he waits for his trial. He was charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder for his mother.
The prosecutor argued that he will pose a threat if he will be released out of jail. It is still not known if Anthony Kaptzan's mental or psychological disorder has led him to commit the said crime.
Statement from the Defense
Meanwhile, following the decision of the court, his defense lawyer Elizabeth Beardsley announced a statement criticizing the decision of the court. She said that putting Anthony Kaptzan in jail while he waits for his trial is not good for his condition. In a statement, Beardsley said that the decision is "essentially punishing him for his mental illness," It was also found out that before the said heinous crime, the killer was already taking medications for his anxiety and depression.
Beardsley added: "We don't know at this point what happened or exactly why it happened. But there is absolutely no evidence that the community at large is in danger."
