Black Lives Matter: More Latin Artists Speak Out Following George Floyd's Death
Well-known Latin artists speak out following the tragic death of George Floyd which was described as murder, according to a recently published article.
George Floyd's Death
The brutal arrest of George Floyd on May 25 has led to an outrage and protests in the different parts of the United States. The supposed to be peaceful protest that was even held just blocks away from the White House later on became violent as one of the protesters alleged that a police officer threw a pepper spray.
There were two autopsies made to determine the cause of Floyd's death. They have different results but they were listed as homicide.
The first autopsy was conducted by an independent group. In their report it was found out that Floyd died due to asphyxiation from sustained pressure, resulting from Chauvin's knee and body weight being placed on Floyd's neck that he got along with other officers kneeling on his back and made him having difficulties in breathing.
In another autopsy from the Hennepin County medical examiner's office, they found out that Floyd's cause of death was "Cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression," The second autopsy is different from the first one.
Well-Known Latin Artists Speak Out
It is undeniable that Latino and African-American communities are the first and second-largest minority groups in the country subsequently. They apportioned more than 60 million of the country's total population.
Meanwhile, there are also many Latin artists who came from African-American heritage. One of them is Amara La Negra who joined the protesters on the streets of Miami and demanded justice and an end of racism.
She said that she is a Dominican and her parents are Dominicans too but first asserted that at first "I AM BLACK," and that she will always defend her people. She added that they have always talked about the discrimination and emphasizing that not only her is suffering from this but everyone.
The Puerto Rican rapper and songwriter Residente also shared his sympathy to his millions of followers on his social media account. He posted a number to call and report the police officers involved in Floyd's death.
Meanwhile, Ricky Martin, a Puerto Rican singer, actor, and author shared a line from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. which states, "And as long as America postpones justice, we stand in the position of having these recurrences of violence and riots over and over again. Social justice and progress are the absolute guarantors of riot prevention."
J Balvin also posted on his social media account the line "BLACK LIVES MATTER," and along with hin were Daddy Yankee who posted of him and his Black father when he was a child, Anuel who posted a purely black background with long message same as with Anitta.
Ivy Queen Diva posted pictures of Blacks and Latinos who were murdered. There were 16 pictures posted and two of them were Ahmaud Arbery, who was killed by a former police officer with his son, and George Floyd.
Becky G tweeted on her social media account a quotation which states "It is not enough to be quietly non-racist, now is the time to be vocally anti-racist," It is followed by his long view and urged his followers to her through the "Black Lives Matter" website.
