The 2014 the World Cup begins in Brazil Thursday, and Latino celebrities and professional athletes are putting their own musical spin on the colossal event that's captures the attention of the world. Superstars like Shakira, Carlos Vives, Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez, and Brazil's soccer players, defender David Luiz and mid-fielder Kaká as well as Spain's mid-fielder/winger Juan Mata, among others, have created their own World Cup Spotify playlists.

While we know that these Latin stars bring the hits and the professional athletes bring their A-game, do they have good taste in music? The answer is yes — they all bring it, in their own ways.

Shakira, who started out with more of a rock and alternative edge with a Colombian twist and has transitioned into a more pop and mainstream-influenced artist (and recently collaborated with pop and R&B stars Beyonce and Rihanna), has one of the best Spotify playlists for World Cup Brazil 2014.

I love that she's included not only her "Waka Waka" (This Time for Africa), the Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Song, but The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army," The Strokes' "Last Night," "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons, and Queen's "We Are the Champions," showing that she has versatility beyond her own sound and genre.

She also paid it forward by adding Pitbull's "We Are One" featuring fellow Latina superstar Jennifer Lopez and Avicii's "Wake Me Up," featuring Panamanian-American singer Aloe Blacc, which also seems to be a favorite among both the Latino celebrities and the professional athletes.

Shakira's World Cup Brazil 2014 Spotify Playlist:

  • "The Cup of Life" (The Official Song of the World Cup, France '98) - Remix - English Radio Edit - Ricky Martin
  • "Waka Waka" (This Time for Africa) (The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup (TM) Song) - Shakira
  • "Happy" - Pharrell Williams
  • "Seven Nation Army" - The White Stripes
  • "Last Nite" - The Strokes
  • "Pompeii" - Bastille
  • "We Are One" (Ole Ola) [The Official 2014 FIFA World Cup Song] - Olodum Mix - Pitbull
  • "Believe" - The Bravery
  • "Wake Me Up" - Avicii
  • "Fever" - The Black

While there has been a lot of buzz that Jennifer Lopez is canceling her World Cup performance, Lopez said in an interview with The Associated Press that she is flying to Brazil on Tuesday night to perform during the tournament's opening ceremony on Thursday.

"I'm coming. I leave tonight. We always were going," she said. "I think people get anxious, especially with me and my schedule when I'm like, 'Ah, OK, I can leave this day, that day, I don't know if we can make it.'"

"People get nervous and I think it was a little bit premature to announce anything," she added. "But we are definitely going."

"FIFA officials announced earlier this week that the singer wouldn't perform the official tune 'We Are One (Ole Ola)' alongside Pitbull and Claudia Leitte. But Lopez said they will perform before Brazil takes on Croatia at Thursday's opening game in Sao Paulo," Fox News reports.

Lopez, 44, who was asked by Pitbull to join him on "We Are One" (Ole Ola), has collaborated with the Cuban artist on "On the Floor" and "Dance Again." Lopez is currently promoting her eighth album, "A.K.A.," which is set to be released next week.

She wasn't too shy to self-promote on her World Cup Brazil 2014 Spotify playlist by including her "I Luh Ya Papi," "Let's Get Loud" and of course the official FIFA Wold Cup song, "We Are One" (Ole Ola), among others. Her mix reflects a more high-energy feel that stays true to her taste and sound.

As for the professional athletes, it seems that Brazilian defender David Luiz is a huge fan of John Mayer, and other talented, more low-key artists like Jack Johnson and James Morrison. Brazil's mid-fielder Kaká is a fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, LMFAO and Muse. Spain's midfielder/winger Juan Mata's playlist is a little weak in length, but it looks like he's a fan of Coldplay, Foo Fighters and Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc.
