Most Americans say that disputing the outcome of the November 2020 US Election would be inappropriate for either the Republicans or Democrats, a report stated.

USA Today said the report also noted a small group of people find display of violence justified if their preferred party lost.

About two out of three Americans (67%) think it is inappropriate for Donald Trump to refuse to leave office if he loses because of claims of illegal voting. The findings are part of the report from Democracy Fund Voter Study Group: "Democracy Maybe: Attitudes on Authoritarianism in America"

Breaking this data along partisan lines, it shows that there are 56% of Republicans, 81% of Democrats, and 53% of independents who believe Trump's refusal to leave office would be inappropriate.

In another USA Today report, it was said that the president had claimed the election is "rigged", aiming at states that want initiated efforts in using mail in ballots due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"The United States cannot have all Mail In Ballots," Trump tweeted in May, calling the use of mail in ballots the "greatest rigged election in history".

Many experts have disputed this claim.

Concern over election tampering

Americans showed a high level of concern regarding the security of the election and worry about the dangers of disinformation, NPR reported last week.

In addfition, 41% of the respondents to the survey believe the country is "not very prepared or not prepared at all" to ensure a safe and secure November election.

While most Democrats think the country isn't prepared, most Republicans think it is.

"Like so many issues, Americans view election security from opposite poles of the partisan divide," said Marist College Institute of Public Opinion's director, Lee Miringoff.

The poll was conducted by the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion from January 7 to 12 through phone survey with 1,259 adults. It has a margin error of 3.5 percentage points for adults and 3.8 for registered voters.

USA Today further reported that if given a scenario where a Democratic nominee asks for a do-over election with claims of interference, about 45% of Americans said it would be inappropriate.

If divided by partisanship, this would give data indicating that 69% of Republicans find the scenario inappropriate while only 27% of Democrats say it is.

Violence after losing

A small portion of both Democrats and Republicans say they may turn to violence if their respective party loses.

About 13% of Democrats think "a little to moderate" violence would be justified if the Republican wins in the 2020 US election, while 9% of the group believe "a lot or a great deal" of violence is justified.

For Republicans, about 11% find "a little to moderate" violence justified if Democrats win while 10% of them say "a lot or a great deal" of it is justified.

Looking at the bigger picture, that would mean 1 out of every 4 people from each party.

More than 7 to 10 percent from both parties believe violence isn't justified at all and, while it may seem like a low number, this also represents millions of Americans.
