Brazilian singer-songwriter Marisa Monte recently signed a global administration agreement with the Universal Music Publishing Group, gaining Latin artists more recognition in the industry.

Monte, who is also a producer and instrumentalist, is well-known for her distinctive vocal abilities that span multiple genres of Brazilian music. The deal covers some of her most impressive work across her nearly four-decade career. The agreement would include hits like "Depois," "Beija Eu," "Amor I Love You," and "Passe em Casa."

The Brazilian star has long since been recognized as one of the country's leading female acts. Her artistry has earned her global admiration. She previously worked with international artists, including David Byrne, Arnaldo Antunes, and Carlinhos Brown.

Brown once described Monte's voice as the "most perfect in the world," likening it to the soft and gentle wind.

Monte's deal with Universal comes at a time when women lead the company. In an interview with Billboard, the Latina celebrated UMPG's "female soul" as well as its talented team.

Signing Record Deals

In February, Puerto Rican singer Lenny Tavarez signed an exclusive record deal with Warner Music Latina. He was formerly half of the reggaeton duo Dyland & Lenny.

Since becoming a solo artist, Tavarez embraced the Latin trap-a subgenre of Latin hip hop. The genre takes influence from Southern hip hop, reggaeton, and dembow. Its vocals blend Spanish rapping and singing.

The deal came after he released "La Pared 360," a collaborative single with Justin Quiles. In an interview, Tavarez said his contract "felt like a marriage." He also said the deal would help him produce the best album of the year.

Redefining Latin Pop

Pitizion, a Columbian singer-songwriter, is also gaining steam in the music industry. In 2019, she signed with Universal Music Latin after record producer Andres Saavedra introduced her to the record label.

The deal helped her launch "Ella," her debut single, in July last year. She also released an eight-track EP which featured collaborative songs with Greeicy and Big Soto, as reported in a previous article.

Piti is known for playing Dotty in the 2011 Nickelodeon Latinoamerica's show, Grachi. Her character served as the sidekick of the show's main antagonist. She appeared in at least 187 episodes.

Her music contains strong and diverse lyrics that combine with global and free-spirited tunes inspired by Latin American artists. Her songs highlight individuality and embracing one's simplicity and uniqueness.

Captivating Global Audiences

Latinx acts are fast earning global recognition. Puerto Rico's Latin trap music has also started to gain more audiences. Artists such as Bad Bunny and Anuel AA introduced the sound to the U.S., allowing them to launch tours in arenas, Consequence of Sound reports.

Dominican-American rapper Cardi B previously tapped Bad Bunny to create a new version of "I Like It Like That." Their collaboration earned the top spot in the Hot 100 chart.

Urban acts like Natanael Cano and T3R Elemento are re-introducing Mexican corridos to the charts. Their music brings new tunes to the age-old genre.
