South African authorities have completed their investigation into the shooting death of Reeva Steenkamp, who was fatally shot by double amputee track star Oscar Pistorius on Feb. 14.

Pistorius, who was Steenkamp's boyfriend, says he accidentally shot her when he mistook her for an intruder in his home. It was Valentine's Day and she was staying over for the night; security cameras captured images of her car pulling into the property earlier in the day.

If Pistorius is convicted of premedidated murder, he could face 25 years to life in prison. He was released on 1 million Rand bail, which equates to about $100,000.

According to the Associated Press, Lt. Gen. Solomon Makgale said it is expected that Pistorius will be served with an indictment in a court appearance scheduled for Monday. During a bail hearing in February, an emotional Pistorius was seen breaking down into tears on multiple occasions.

Some have considered this case to be a reflection of the high crime rate in South Africa. Many South African homes are equipped with barbed wire, an electric fence, and advanced security systems -- even security guards. The question has been raised -- Did Pistorius react in fear?

The former Olympic athlete has rarely been seen in public since the incident. Pistorius went from being a national South African icon to a possible murderer.

Steenkamp, only 29 years of age at the time of her death, was a model and made several television appearances. She had been dating Pistorius since Nov. 2012.
