Why Should You Use Natural Deodorants?
Deodorants and anti-perspirants were invented in the 1910s aiming to kill odor-producing bacteria. Who in their right minds wouldn't want to smell fresh and clean every day, right?
But a new product has been making waves in the market these days after claims that anti-perspirants contain aluminum and has been linked to increasing the risk of cancer and Alzheimer's disease. However, these claims show no conclusive evidence between cancer and aluminum-based anti-perspirants.
Aside from the aluminum issue, anti-perspirants can block your sweat glands, which prevents your body from sweating. But just to be on the safe side should you start using natural deodorants?
To be deemed effective, natural deodorants should have any antibacterial properties. Also, avoid potential irritants that may cause allergic reactions.
If you're eyeing on switching to natural deodorants, here are some variations that you can find in the market:
1. Dove 0% Aluminum
Dove 0% Aluminum has different variations, which can be in Green Tea and Cucumber or Coconut and Pink Jasmine. Reviews said this did not sting. Other natural deodorants have baking soda and alcohol in their ingredient list. But not this one.
Hadley King, M.D., clinical instructor of dermatology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York, said this product can be a perfect fit for sensitive skin because of its hydrating and moisturizing ingredients.
2. Schmidt's Natural Deodorant
Just like Dove, this has other variations. You don't have to worry if you have sensitive skin with its Jasmine Tea variation.
But if you lean more on smelling good, Schmidt's Rose and Vanilla will have you smelling like a fresh garden.
3. Crystal Body Deodorant
Crystal uses 100 percent natural mineral salt "crystal." Talk about going natural, right? This is a hypoallergenic deodorant and can actually save you money. One review said this took them about a year to go through one full stick.
Crystal does not have a hint of scent and it never leaves a stain. However, you need to moisten it before you use it. This can be a bit confusing at first. But maybe eventually you'll get the hang of it.
4. Native Deodorant
Native Deodorant is made without aluminum, parabens, phthalates, or talc in its ingredient list.
It also has a variety of scents, which allows you to choose. Adding to that, it's not sticky and can be used without needing to reapply.
5. Ursa Major Hoppin' Fresh Deodorant
Ursa Major Hoppin' Fresh Deodorant has a smooth texture and aluminum-free. This has kaolin clay and baking soda to absorb moisture and prevent any odor.
It does not miss the most needed antibacterial ingredient with eucalyptus. Ursa Major Hoppin' Fresh Deodorant also contains aloe to hydrate your underarms.
6. Kopari Coconut Deodorant
Smooth application? Kopari Coconut Deodorant is here to deliver with its ingredients containing coconut water, coconut oil, and sage oil. The brand also prides itself on being like "skincare for your pits."
Know what you need in a deodorant and use what works for you. But remember to always check the ingredients list to make sure any ingredients won't trigger any allergic reactions.
