A Texas man has been charged with murder after a teenage girl was shot on Sunday at an illegal street racing event in the heart of Hollywood.

According to the prosecutors, Ramon Roque Monreal, 33, from El Pazo, was charged with a murder case on Tuesday.

The incident started with two men in an argument, and then, later on, some shots were fired. Meanwhile, Alejandra Estrada, 17, was watching the race when she was unexpectedly shot, according to a report by The San Diego Union-Tribune. This shooting caused Alejandra's death, and a second victim was wounded but is expected to survive.

Several videos were posted on social media showing a spill out of an argument between two men in the intersection. According to the police, one of them was wearing a black shirt, dark pants, and white shoes identified as Monreal. Monreal was seen confronting a big man in a white shirt.

"You down to do some stuff like that?" Monreal asked before he pulled a handgun from his waistband. Another man who was watching Monreal's argument with the other guy went to swing and punched the gunman in the head twice and knocked him on the ground. That was when Monreal fired three quick shots and scattered the crowd.

The spokesman for the district attorney's office, Ricardo Santiago, said that Alejandra Estrada and the other victim were attending the street race in the area when shots rang out.

Monreal is now also being charged with attempted murder. According to L.A News, Monreal was armed with a handgun when he was arrested on Sunday morning. He has not entered a plea though he was scheduled to appear on court on Tuesday afternoon.

Street races happen to take advantage of the empty roadways during the pandemic. Racers block sections of the road to perform dangerous stunts, including burnouts. The police warned earlier this year the roll races coming in from all over the state when California was shut down as a response to the coronavirus battle. The street race that led to shooting on Sunday and killed Estrada is described as a "full-blown takeover," according to the law enforcement official.
