A leak on the new Microsoft next-gen console Xbox Series S confirmed rumors, and it looks like it's cheaper than other consoles too.

The leak was reported on by The Verge that obtained photos of the Xbox console controller. In it, the packaging mentioned the name Xbox Series S.

Twitter user Zak S was able to buy the controller on Sunday, and the tech news outlet confirmed that it was a genuine controller from the gaming brand.

This leak took place way before Microsoft had officially announced that it would unveil an Xbox Series S, no less confirmed that it would have a new white controller for it.

Less Powerful, Less Expensive

Recent news has confirmed that the Series X console will hit stores later this year, but the cheaper, less powerful version never had its name-dropped and only remained in rumors. It was first believed to carry the codename, Xbox Lockhart, in June, reported CNET.

A Reddit user discovered the new console on sale, though, and confirmed that it isn't named Lockhart, but is a Series S controller.

According to the packaging notes, the new controller will work on Xbox Series X, Series S, Xbox One, PC, Android, and iOS devices.

Ars Technica confirmed in their report that the upcoming and unannounced Microsoft product was indeed the Xbox Series S, based on sources who are familiar with the hardware plans.

It is said that the new Series S will exist alongside the well-publicized Xbox Series X. Both don't have a confirmed release date or price.

Zak S shared more photos of the controller to Ars Technica, where it showed how the new gaming development could sync with other hardware, including a laptop and a smartphone.

The manual did not show older Xbox One models or a smaller console design for the Series S, which begs the question: "Will the new Series S have the same monolithic shape as Series X?"

A Previous Leak

This isn't the first time a mysterious controller was leaked online. A white version of the Xbox Series X controller first appeared online last month.

It was complete with the new D-pad, texture trigger, and a new share button. The new leak matches the first controller that people found online.

Since there is already an available retail packaging, there is a chance that it will hit stores soon.

In a leak of Microsoft documents last June, the company's plans for two next-gen consoles were revealed. The Series X devkit was codenamed "Dante" in the document, and it allowed game developers to have a special Lockhart mode.

It has a profile of the performance that Microsoft wants to see in its newer, second console.

Lockhart was expected to have 7.5 GB of usable RAM and four teraflops of GPU performance. It was set to be shipped with the same CPU found in the Xbox Series X.

The reveal of Series S is believed to be set sometime in August, and it will play a big part in the company's Xbox All Access subscription plans.

Tech news outlets have reached out to Microsoft for comment on the leak, but the tech giant has not yet replied.
