Here's How to Qualify for the Stimulus Check
Residents in this state who are facing financial hardships during the global pandemic can get another stimulus check if they get qualified and eligible for the relief aid.
Millions of Americans are still waiting for the second round of stimulus payments that will somehow help them amid the financial hardships everyone is facing due to the global pandemic. While waiting for another relief bill, Oregon announced that its residents can get another stimulus check.
The state lawmakers in Oregon approved the $35 million program in July and could potentially help around 70,000 qualified and eligible residents in the state. This is aside from the unemployment benefits residents in the state are waiting for.
There are around 500,000 individuals who applied for unemployment benefits in Oregon since the pandemic began. This caused major delays in people receiving funds. However, the state lawmakers are doing their best to make sure that Oregonians will have the help they need.
Senate President Peter Courtney said "We know $500 isn't going to solve all of these problems, but if we can help a family buy groceries for the month, pay for child care, or cover an unexpected repair, it's worth it," However, residents will get as much as $900 including the unemployment claims.
The new relief program of the state will use funds from the CARES Act. House Speaker Tina Kotek explained that the state lawmakers are stepping up and she hoped that Congress will act soon for the next round of the stimulus package.
She also said, "After months of hearing from increasingly desperate Oregonians who were doing everything right and still not getting the unemployment benefit they were owed, we hope this effort offers a streamlined way for some financial relief."
Moreover, the state set the following to become eligible for the one-time state stimulus payment:
- Be a current resident of Oregon and 18 years old or older
- Be able to prove their identity and that they are an in-state resident
- Attest that they are experiencing severe financial hardship directly or indirectly due to the governor's Stay Home, Save Lives executive orders
- Had been earning $4,000/month or less pre-tax prior to their income loss due to COVID-19
- Not have received all unemployment payments they are owed
It is important to note that residents in the state who have up to date unemployment benefits are not qualified for the program. This is only a one-time state stimulus payment according to a recently published news article in KGW8.
Following the announcement of the state in the said stimulus payment, thousands wrapped around at the OnPoint Community Credit Union on Wednesday afternoon. They hoped to receive the stimulus check that the state is offering.
One of the applicants said that the stimulus check will help pay car payment and buy food for her family. On the other hand, instead of spending the stimulus check, another recipient of the stimulus check said that she already planned to save it during the rainy days.
