iPhone 11 waterproof could be true as eight months after the 11 and 11 Pro were subjected to a water test, the devices are still functioning.

Except for a bit distortion of its speakers' sound, both iPhone 11 and 11 Pro can still be used after being submerged thrice. Each in different depths, and all for 30 minutes.

According to a report on Cnet, which also did the extreme water tests, the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro may just be able to withstand more water than Apple claims.

The iPhone 11 is a dust and water-resistant phone.

When a device is described as water-resistant, it does not mean that it is waterproof. It only means that it can resist the penetration of water to some degree.

Waterproof, on the other hand, means the device cannot be penetrated by water at all. It is impervious to water.

Apple has given the iPhone 11 a rating of IP68, which means it can resist water only when it is submerged up to two meters deep for 30 minutes.

The iPhone 11 Pro, on the other hand, can resist water up to four meters deep for 30 minutes.

However, the extreme water tests proved that the iPhone 11 waterproof claim is true.

Both phones were submerged in three depths, first in 3.9 meters deep, then 7.9 meters, and last at 11.8 meters.

For each depth, the phones were submerged for 30 minutes.

Moreover, the phones were submerged in salty water as they were dropped at the Monterey Bay in California.

The phones were tested after each submersion, and except for the speakers' issue, there was no fogging on the camera lenses, both front and back, and the touchscreens still worked.

Even after washing the phones with clean water, drying them up, and turning them off for 72 hours, the phones function just the same when turned on.

The test was done late last year, and both phones are still working now.

However, the test was not scientific and did not guarantee that it would have the same results when done on other iPhone 11 and 11 Pro.

Forbes report pointed out that according to Apple, the water-resistant rates were reached following a test done under laboratory conditions that were controlled.

According to a press release from Apple, the water resistance rating is more to protect the phone from accidental spills from water, soda, or maybe coffee.

Aside from accidental spills, there is also the accidental dropping of phones in maybe the toilet bowl, as Bustle reported.

The phone's resistance to these types of contact with liquid might also decrease, especially when it often happens.

So, is the iPhone 11 waterproof? According to Apple, it is just water-resistant, but the extreme water test did show it.

Just remember that the phone's warranty does not cover liquid damage.
