President Trump said that he will not participate in the second debate with Democratic candidate Joe Biden. This was after the Commission on Presidential Debates revealed Thursday that the exercise will be conducted virtually.

"I'm not going to waste my time on a virtual debate," Mr. Trump said on Fox Business.

The Commission decided that the two candidates would debate "from different remote areas." Mr. Trump and other White House workers tested positive for coronavirus during last week's first presidential debate.

Before the vote, the US President would have released some negative checks. So there is little need for this unilateral comment, said Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien.

He also stated that safety can still be prioritized without depriving the voters of their chance to see the candidates face-to-face. "We'll pass on this sad excuse to bail out Joe Biden and do a rally instead."

Biden's reaction

Joe Biden's deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield said Vice President Biden is excited in making his point known to the voters.

The debate commission said that both candidates will participate virtually in the current model. Steve Scully of C-Span Network serves as the campaign moderator.

The news came the morning after the vice presidential debate with extra safeguards, such as plexiglass walls between the candidates, in person. Vice President Mike Pence and Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris have been screened negative.

First virtual presidential debate?

The first such occurrence to occur after the President tested positive for the coronavirus was Wednesday's discussion.

For the unresolved problems during their 90-minute discussion on stage in Salt Lake City, Utah, the vice presidential debate would be recalled rather than any excellent lines or impressive ripostes from either nominee.

On Thursday, Mr. Pence, Ms. Harris and Mr. Biden are expected to make a swing across the West. However, when he recovers from Covid-19, Mr. Trump will reside in Washington.

Would Trump's decision affect the election campaign?

The evening will possibly do nothing to alter the campaign's condition, which has concentrated on the administration's treatment of the pandemic in recent days, strategists and analysts said.

A few commentators claimed that the most amusing moment was when a fly fell on Mr. Pence's head and stayed trapped in the position for more than two minutes.

"This debate did nothing to alter the trajectory of the race; it was more of a talking point exchange than a debate," said David Wasserman, a political analyst at the nonpartisan Cook Political Report. He told the Wall Street Journal that an insect landing on Pence's head is the most off-script moment you need to know.

Mr. Wasserman said former Vice President Joe Biden and Ms. Harris are gaining from the status quo. Sunday's survey by the Wall Street Journal / NBC News showed Mr. Biden's 14-point lead ahead of the other candidate, 53 percent-39 percent. Meanwhile, the President's support from older and white working-class voters decreased.
