Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin confirmed Thursday that President Donald Trump is interested in striking a large-scale stimulus deal.

With Trump saying he is interested in reaching a large-scale stimulus deal, there is a big chance that millions of Americans will soon receive relief aid, such as $1,200 direct stimulus checks, $600 weekly unemployment benefits, and PPP loans, among others. 

Trump has long been pushing for a second round of the stimulus package. However, a series of negotiations did not reach a deal because of disagreements on the package's total amount. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi initially pushed for a $3.4 trillion bill to provide more economic aid. But the White House sought a smaller amount while aiming to put Americans back to work.   

After months of failed negotiations, the two parties could reach an agreement anytime. Mnuchin called Pelosi and told her that Trump is interested to resume the negotiations with a more comprehensive relief aid, according to a CNN News report.

Last month, the president has already said that "higher numbers'' are needed for the next stimulus aid. Even though Pelosi questioned Trump's interest to reach a large-scale stimulus because another White House official contradicted the previous assertion, Mnuchin assured her that Trump is interested in reaching a deal. 

Another person also confirmed that Mnuchin called Pelosi to discuss with her Trump's interest on the large-scale stimulus package. However, it is not yet clear if the president's interest refers to the $2.2 trillion stimulus package that the Democrats previously offered.

The next negotiation is very crucial. Both parties are expected to reach a deal. This is to make sure that millions of Americans who continue to suffer the pandemic, remained unemployed, businesses are still shut down, and more economic problems will have the help they need. 

There have also been funding requests from airline industries that just laid-off over 32,000 employees recently after Congress and Senate did not reach a deal last week. Moreover, schools and health officials are also requesting resources. 

Pres. Trump's interest in the larger-scale of a stimulus package is a great sign of development. This reverses his Twitter post of Tuesday where he wrote and said to stop the stimulus negotiation. But before the day ends, he Tweeted again and told Congress to come up with more stimulus aids particularly the $1,200 direct stimulus checks which he said that he will sign immediately. 

Meanwhile, details of a more generous stimulus package is not yet clear. But Trump's interest on it is definitely a great progress. Even though, an outside economic adviser already told Trump that this will not help his presidential reelection bid, the president said what's on his mind is to help his countrymen. 

Pushing again for a large-scale stimulus package is a clear manifestation that Trump is not playing politics. His administration has long been trying to reach a deal but their proposals were rejected many times.

If ever that both parties will meet an agreement either this week or next week, there is still a time to send the money before the election. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has already said that it is ready to send the relief aid anytime, once the president signs the bill into law.
