Pres. Trump Could Approve $2.2 Trillion To Reach Stimulus Deal
White House economic adviser revealed on Sunday that President Trump cold approve $2.2 trillion just to reach the stimulus deal after the latest $1.8 trillion was rejected.
White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow revealed on Sunday that Pres. Donald Trump could go beyond the latest $1.8 trillion just to reach the stimulus deal. This means that there is a possibility anytime or within this week that a new offer will be released.
It is expected that the new offer will have a total package of $2.2 trillion to make sure that a deal will be reached before the election. The new proposal will target to increase weekly unemployment benefits, PPP loans, and will prioritize the $1,200 stimulus checks.
It can be remembered that one of the reasons why the recent White House proposal of $1.8 trillion was rejected is because it covers small amounts in some measures like the weekly unemployment claims. However, Pres. Trump is now open to give $600 weekly unemployment benefits.
Kudlow also shared that he heard Trump relay his concerns in the Oval office over direct stimulus checks, PPP loans, unemployment assistance, funding for the airline industry, and more. The economic adviser also asserted that Pres. Trump could go further.
In a published article in The Hill, Kudlow was quoted saying: "I think if we could get this thing settled on the Democrat side, we will get it settled on the Republican side. There will still be further efforts of negotiation perhaps today but certainly this coming week." He also added that the Democrats are holding up things.
Meanwhile, segment show the State of the Union posted on their Twitter account: "White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow says he doesn't think the stimulus deal is dead, despite President Trump's $1.8 trillion proposal facing opposition from Senate GOP."
Kudlow furthermore clarified that Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell wants the same thing and that is to provide the targeted assistance. Kudlow said this when the host of the show asked him about the disagreement of Powell in the stimulus package.
It can be remembered that both Jerome Powell and the U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin testified before a Congress panel over the need for another round of stimulus package. Both of them also insisted that another round of stimulus aid will help to regain the country's economy.
Moreover, despite the plan to reach the $2.2 trillion stimulus deal, several members of the Republican Senators were raising concerns about the proposal's cost in a call with administration officials. They described it as a "death knell" for the Republicans ahead of the elections.
L"Republicans in the Senate put up their own bill a few weeks ago and got 53 votes, I think it was, so they united. I think if an agreement can be reached, they will go along with it," Kudlow added, There might be another negotiation within this week just to reach the deal and deliver what millions of Americans need amid the pandemic.
