Joe Biden Election Campaign Fundraising Records Nets $383 Million in September
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden said Wednesday that his campaign team received $383 million in donations for September.
The whopping amount that he set only a month ago broke fundraising records.
"To every person who chipped in a few dollars last month - thank you," Biden wrote on Twitter, sharing a call he had with one of his grassroots supporters.
"Because of your support, we raised an astounding $383 million. I'm incredibly humbled." Biden added that the team received an average donation of less than $50.
To every person who chipped in a few dollars last month — thank you. Because of your support, we raised an astounding $383 million. I'm incredibly humbled. A whopping $3.8 million in just 60 minutes?
The September figure beat the previous record set in August by Joe Biden's campaign and affiliated committees, a $364 million haul.
For a single month of fundraising during a presidential race, the prior milestone had been Barack Obama's $193 million donation in September 2008.
The Biden camp also claimed that he had set an all-time high for donations in one hour. During last month's first presidential debate, the team acquired $3.8 million in just 60 minutes.
Biden's campaign manager, Jen O'Malley Dillon, noted on Twitter that the former vice president's attempt to unseat President Donald Trump already has $432 million in the bank with only under three weeks remaining before the referendum on Nov. 3.
You heard it from the VP: our grassroots community of donors helped us raise $383 million in September — a record. I’m proud of what you’ve been able to build, but there’s still more work to do. Trump's team has not yet reported his funding estimates for September, but they must submit campaign finance reports by Tuesday. In August, the president received $210 million and, according to Open Secrets, had $156.9 million cash on hand at the time of publication.
But those numbers are a long way from the nine-figure cash advantage the president had earlier this year over Biden.
Last month, the New York Times confirmed that Trump's reelection campaign was under a cash shortage with fewer than two months to go in the wake of lavish expenditures that burned through hundreds of millions of dollars.
For the last few months, mainly after he selected Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) as his running mate, Biden has been outraging the president.
How Trump and Biden are doing in the polls
Following the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Supreme Court justice who was a leader in women's rights, Democrats witnessed an increase of contributions in September.
Over the weekend of her passing, ActBlue, a campaign site used by Democrats for tiny donations, last month announced $100 million of gifts.
The Trump campaign has been massively outspent in key swing states as Biden has used his financial strength to pump large amounts into television ads. In regular red Republican counties, like Texas, the Democratic nominee has used his cash edge to drive into ads.
Trump has held events in the states he secured by wide majorities in 2016 in the final weeks of the race, even with millions of Americans have already registered.
