However, after the release of his track "Favorito," Camilo decided to become more active on the social media giant and went on dance challenges in March. Within five months, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Camilo had his TikTok followers by 10 million.

From 6 million, his count jumped to just over 16 million. He even surpassed J Balvin to become the most-followed Latin artist on TikTok. How did he do it? His weapon was his wife, the singer-actress Evaluna, as per Billboard.

Evaluna says, whenever Camilo has an idea or before he posts, Camilo asks for her opinion. "Everything posted on TikTok is a team effort," she added. According to Evaluna, they usually plan a dance challenge long prior to a single release. The couple dedicates a day to think of the choreography with their friend Paula Macher, who has more than a million TikTok followers on her account. Meanwhile, TikTok's editor operations for Spanish South America, Noel Nuez, believes that Camilo's and his wife Evaluna's collaboration helped Camilo rake in new followers in a short period. Nuez reiterated that in addition to Camilo's leveraging creator network, he is surrounded by family and friends who are well-integrated on TikTok themselves, allowing him to go viral among other top profiles and strengthen cross-profile storytelling. "Camilo makes use of TikTok's popular visual effects, like greenscreen, to "create a range of different content that incorporates Camilo's music as a key component of the storytelling," Nuez said. The 26-year-old artist is not shy away from overpromotion; he also posts the same dance challenge and audio clip again and again. He says the algorithm in TikTok is far different from other social media platforms. TikTok does not saturate feed and doesn't see all his videos unless a follower will visit his profile.

According to alKhaleej Today, Camilo views each post as a new entry for fans to reach his page. "Favorito" reached No. 25 on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart in March. In September, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, Camilo's collaboration with Rauw Alejandro on "Tattoo (Remix" got the no.7 spot in the same chart, having 64 million on-demand in the U.S streams.

On TikTok, the track has been tagged to 2.8 million videos, mostly from Camilo and Evaluna. The singer-songwriter also referred to the value of being unique on social media.

"The songs that I post on TikTok and the videos that we share represent who I am and have a level of participation in a very transparent and honest way. Pretending always leads to failure," Camilo concluded.
