A 20-year-old Florida man has been arrested after allegedly hacking into Florida's voter registration system.

The alleged suspect also reportedly changed state Governor Ron DeSantis' address, which was only discovered by the governor himself when he voted on Monday.

Authorities identified the hacker to be Anthony Steven Guevara for making the unauthorized changes, as reported by Forbes.

DeSantis went to vote early at his assigned polling site on Monday. He was then told that his primary address had been changed.

The governor argued that he did not authorize the change, which led the Florida Department Law Enforcement to investigate. The officials traced the change back to a laptop in Naples.

Officials involved in the investigation found search terms like "Florida my vote" and "Florida governor," with visits to DeSantis' Wikipedia page and the Florida voter website.

With this, Guevara is charged with two felony counts of property crimes and one count of altering voter registration without knowledge or consent, as reported by WPTV-TV.

The Florida man stayed in the Collier County jail on Wednesday morning on $5,000 bond, reports said. Meanwhile, the motive behind the change is not yet immediately clear.

Swing State

Florida is among states that are considered to be "swing states." Swing states show polling neck and neck race between U.S. President Donald Trump and Democratic bet Joe Biden.

RealClearPolitics latest polling showed an average presenting Trump with a thin 0.4 percentage point lead from Biden.

The state has a massive contribution of 29 electoral votes, tying it with New York for the third-highest vote share in the Electoral College.

In addition, in the entire election history, every presidential candidate to win Florida has won the presidential election. This was since 1996.

Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, and Iowa are also classified as "swing states." The classification also goes to Maine, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Swing states are likely to determine the result of this year's presidential election.

Ballots Cast

The state Florida is seen to reach a new record for ballots cast in a single election.

United States Elections Project showed that 72.2 percent of the total number of ballots cast in 2016 have already been cast during the early voting period in 2020.

Meanwhile, over 21,000 ballots have been flagged for missing or mismatched signatures. More than 400,000 votes were casted on Monday alone, which totals the overall count to 6.5 million.

Poll workers are helping in the completion of information in voters' ballots. Poll worker Valerie Witters said that most of the people come complete and ready to put it in the box.

Many advocates have advised that the time has run out to trust the post office to deliver your ballots.

"At this point, we are suggesting that you still go and drop off your ballot, ," Juanica Fernandes with State Voices was quoted in a News4Jax report.

She added that they no longer advise mailing ballots.

Advocacy groups also noted that Black and Hispanic voters are more likely to have signature issues.

"After the August primary, 35,000 votes were rejected and projections for the current election are expected to be much higher," Brad Ashwell with All Votes are Local was also quoted in a report.
