Telenovelas You Should Not Miss Streaming on Netflix
Every Latino knows the power of a good telenovela when it comes to uniting households. Telenovelas would keep a family being entertained, especially those who are longing for some fabulous alternate reality.
The pandemic has decreased telenovelas. Mostly are off the air by now since they usually run for one or two seasons only. However, Netflix has tons of great telenovelas in its library for the past two decades.
So, instead of redundantly playing a movie, watch one of these shows that Cosmopolitan shared:
BOLÍVAR (2019)
Bolivar is an excellent historical drama you must try. The show depicts the life of Venezuelan General Simón Bolívar, who helped many Litan American countries liberate from Spain's rule in the 17th century. Bolivar focuses a great deal on the general's romantic life that helps humanize the Latin American hero.
ROSARIO TIJERAS (2018)
Rosario Tijeras is a series based on the best-selling novel by Jorge Franco. It follows a hitwoman named Rosario, who seeks vengeance in the most dangerous part of Mexico City. But in true telenovela fashion, the series highlights the love triangle between Rosario and her two prominent best friends fighting each other for Rosario's heart. This telenovela is composed of drama, action, and female empowerment.
EL CLON (2010)
El Clon is a complex drama about cultural differences that prevent lovers from being together. Lucas, the protagonist, has an identical clone who is 20 years younger. He is competing for the affection of Jade. The telenovela explores the effects of time and distance on love. It is emotionally exhausting, but all worth it.
PASIÓN DE GAVILANES (2003)
The title Pasion De Gavilanes means "Hawks of Passion." This short-lived series centers on three brothers looking to avenge the death of a loved one. The theme of Pasion De Gavilanes is expected in the world of telenovelas. The show creates an emotional attachment that may foil the brothers' real pain.
LA REINA DEL FLOW (2018)
Common themes of telenovelas are love, murder, revenge, and drugs. However, La Reina del Flow added some twist by mixing music to the said telenovela. The series tells a wrongly imprisoned music producer and a womanizing singer who will be entangled with local narcos.
SIN SENOS NO HAY PARAÍSO (2008 AND 2016)
Sin Senos No Hay Paraiso roughly translates as "Without Breasts There Is No Paradise." There are lots of things going on with this telenovela. Catalina, the main character, is willing to do everything for breast augmentation to secure her closeness with the drug lords. The series takes a stand against the world of aesthetic enhancement or plastic surgeries.
