Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said he would not impose a lockdown in his state should Democratic Joe Biden try to enforce one.

The United States remained to have the highest number of COVID-19 infections and deaths around the world.

At present, the country has recorded over 11.8 million cases and more than 250,00 deaths, according to the official tally of Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center.

Florida is the third state in the country, which has recorded the highest number of infections and deaths.

According to the official tally of Worldometers, Florida has over 905,000 COVID-19 cases and more than 17,000 deaths. They are just below Texas and California, which both recorded more than one million infections.

Despite the increasing number of COVID-19 infections in Florida, DeSantis said he would not follow Biden's lockdown order because it will only affect the already heavily impacted economy of the state. The state governor is a known member of the Republican party.

In a published report of CBS12, a spokesperson from DeSantis' office that the state has recorded 4,500 cases and a 7.3 percent positivity rate. That means that the state's positivity rate is still slightly higher than the WHO's five percent safe positivity rate.

The spokesperson explained that the high number of new COVID-19 infections resulted from a large submission of files that alter the numbers.

He also said that DeSantis does not have any plan to order a state lockdown. He asserted that the governor could not afford to see his people suffering again for another six weeks during a lockdown, which means the closure of businesses and unemployment.

Additionally, the spokesperson claimed that the virus has a 99.8 percent survival rate. In a statement, he cited that one area of concern is the assisted living facilities.

"Since those over 70 face the greatest threat from [COVID] the Governor is monitoring those numbers daily and is prepared to move therapeutic and prophylactic assets to those facilities as needed," he noted.

A published article in The Dan Bongino Show said that lockdowns in the United States are pointless because it can heavily impact the economy. The article also claimed that small businesses across the country could not survive weeks or even months without revenue.

A member of Biden's coronavirus task force, Michael Osterholm, said on MSNBC that the country need another lockdown to halt the spread of COVID-19.

"We need to, in a sense, lockdown to drive this infection level to a place where we can actually control it with testing and tracing and follow-up that way, just like the Asian countries have done. And I'm talking about everything from Australia to New Zealand, all the way right up through China, Japan. All of those countries have done it already," he said.

A nationwide lockdown could help mitigate the spread of coronavirus, but it also means more weeks of suffering. Residents and businesses in the country could likely survive a lockdown if will be another round of stimulus package.

Major media outlets have declared Biden the winner of the presidential election.
