The nation's top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, said on Sunday that he does not see a current public health restrictions and recommendations being relaxed before the years ends.

This as the nation prepares for what is likely to be one of the busiest travel days of the year despite the continued nationwide surge of COVID-19 cases.

Fauci said that when handling this kind of infection that the country currently has it does not turn around all of a sudden.

Surge in cases amid the holidays

He added that there will be the same sort of thing in the following weeks, saying that the public may see a surge upon surge of additional new cases amid the Thanksgiving gatherings and travel.

"We don't want to frighten people, but that's just the reality," Fauci was quoted on an ABC News report.

The Transportation Security Administration has checked more than eight million people between Nov. 20 and Saturday.

This despite warnings and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

On Sunday morning, the United States COVID-19 cases have peaked at four million in the past month.

This was double October's previous monthly high.

More than 266,000 Americans have died from the COVID-19 pandemic since it began.

Fauci said that they have already forecasted earlier that these things would happen during the cold weather and as people start to travel.

He added that this is going to happen again.

"So, I cannot see, all of a sudden, a relaxation of the kinds of recommendations or restrictions because we're getting into colder weather, and in -- in an even larger holiday season as people travel to come back and forth for Christmas," Fauci was quoted on a report.

With the current increase in COVID-19 cases, he urged Americans to be extremely careful as they return from Thanksgiving holiday travel.

He added that testing and quarantine period should be observed.

The U.S. has surpassed that 13 million total of COVID-19 cases on Friday.

A data from John Hopkins University revealed that this is an uptick of more than one million cases in less than a week.

Effective vaccine may hold promise

Meanwhile, Fauci has been optimistic about the end of pandemic.

He discussed about vaccines and its availability to higher priority people beginning in the middle and end of December.

Health experts focuses on public reception of the potential vaccines as Moderna and Pfizer announced their vaccine's promising results.

As many as two out of five Americans would not agree to be vaccinated against COVID-19, a recent Gallup poll showed.

Fauci noted the government cannot mandate vaccine on every individual.

However, he noted that businesses and schools would require its vaccines for its employees.

He also encouraged local leaders to assist the government in anti-vaccine rhetoric and affirm the vaccination's safety.

Fauci said that they have to get out there to show people two things, which are the process of the development of the vaccine's safety has not been compromised, as well as it is safe and effective.
