@HiddenCash Twitter Acount, Anonymous Millionaire Revealed: Jason Buzi to Continue to Tweet Clues to Money Envelopes in US Cities, Europe
A once-anonymous man with the Twitter handle @HiddenCash started a mini-treasure hunt by hiding cash somewhere in the Bay Area and tweeting clues to its location. The finder gets to keep the money! But on Monday night, the mystery mastermind behind @HiddenCash revealed himself to be Palo Alto, California-based millionaire Jason Buzi. The real estate investor appeared on a television interview where he explained his motive and future plans. Buzi told Anderson Cooper on CNN's "AC360" that he has given out between $10,000 and $15,000 since he started the scavenger hunts for cash in San Francisco more than a couple of weeks ago.
Buzi tweeted hints as to the locations where he had hidden envelops of cash across the state in late May. Examples of cash drop locations included the Huntington Library in San Marino, a fountain in Los Feliz, spots in Hermosa Beach, Echo Park and Burbank. According to him, it was easier to make the drops when he was still anonymous. However, the identity of the millionaire was eventually discovered and revealed by the Inside Edition after they hired a forensic voice analyst to do voice comparisons of different recordings of his interviews he posted anonymously using his Twitter handle @HiddenCash.
Buzi said in his interview with Andersen Cooper that it was "more about the social experiment" and less about the cash when it came to his personal scavenger hunts. The millionaire finds something powerful about bringing people together physically through social media and the Internet. Although his identity is no longer a secret and thousands of people have attempted to add him online, Buzi said that the experiment is not yet over. He still plans on giving away more, adding at least eight more cities in the coming weekends. He also plans on expanding his experiment to Europe starting next month. But for now, New Yorkers should start preparing to expect tweets about hidden cash in Manhattan.
