Female Brazilian boxer Viviane Obenauf was arrested after her husband was found dead in their Switzerland apartment, after a sustained violent assault.

The couple was married in January and Obenauf, 34, was accused of beating her husband to death reportedly with a blunt object. The husband was only identified as Thomas, 61, died of massive injuries.

Thomas owned a restaurant, Des Alpes, in the Swiss town of Interlaken, where the couple shared the apartment. In the same area, Obenauf opened a gym.

Police also investigated Obenauf's gym, aside from their shared apartment.

Obenauf has been in custody for a month. However, she was recently identified as the main suspect in light of her husband's death, according to a Yahoo News report

Suspects are usually not named under Swiss law and prosecutors have refused to comment on her identity. However, a Switzerland newspaper claimed to have confirmed it from three independent sources.

Obenauf married Thomas despite the 30-year age difference. Friends described them as a happy couple. However, Obenauf reportedly moved out of their shared apartment.

This was three weeks before her husband's death. Police arrived at her home in the village in four unmarked cars on Nov. 9. She was then saw to be taken to the hearing in the nearby town of Thun.

Dangerous Temper

Swiss newspaper Blick reported that Obenauf had been arrested before in a London nightclub after punching a man in the face for allegedly trying to grope her while she celebrated her 30th birthday.

She reportedly spent several hours in jail on the night of that incident, as reported by the New York Post.

According to The Daily Mail, people who knew her said that she was not hesitant to taking on women on men outside of the ring if she lost her temper.

A man who claimed that he used to date the female boxer said that he was not surprised that she was once again behind bars. "She always had two faces. It's like flicking a switch," he was quoted on an NY Post report.

Obenauf was born in Rio de Janeiro and formerly played football when she was young.

Obenauf's Career

She was also an Olympic gymnast before turning to boxing at the age of 18. Obenauf was in a featherweight division and was known to fought in three world title during her boxing career.

She was known to hold a 14-6 record and two World Boxing Federation international titles before she retired last year. She has a nine-year-old son from her previous relationship.

Meanwhile, Breitbart reported that other boxers have had arrests and suspensions due to domestic violence.

In February, a video circulated of lightweight boxing champion Gervonta Davis shoving and dragging his ex-girlfriend into a separate room at a charity basketball game.

British middleweight Billy Joe Saunders also reportedly instructed men on how to hit their partner if their partners are giving them a mouthful of nagging.

This was during the coronavirus lockdown, which was posted on social media.
