Cases of child sexual abuse have increased over the years. This increase has also significantly seen along with domestic violence during this pandemic, when most people stayed at home to avoid the infection of the virus. Some reports were also about sexual child assault.

Sexual assault lasted for two years

Jose Rosendo Marquez, a 50-year-old and an illegal immigrant from North Carolina, was charged with 19 counts of first-degree statutory sexual offense after his arrest by the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, according to a report in Breitbart.

The report said that the police officer started their investigation about Marquez after a minor told the investigators that they had been sexually assaulted a couple of times by the illegal immigrant since August 2017.

The investigation started on August 21, 2017. According to a report in Statesville, Detective Sgt. Katie Harwell of the Special Victims Unit began an investigation which included an interview at the Dove House Child Advocacy Center.

During the investigation, Iredell Sheriff Darren Campbell said the juvenile disclosed being sexually assaulted on multiple occasions and named Marquez as the person responsible.

Meanwhile, the police investigators did not reveal how the child was assaulted or how many of them were sexually assaulted by Marquez.

Suspect fled to Virginia

Detective Sgt. Katie Harwell of the Special Victims Unit continued her investigation after the child confessed to the sexual assault. However, when the police officers obtained a warrant of arrest, they found out that Marques fled from North Carolina to Virginia.

Police officers were very persistent and were able to track the whereabouts of the suspect in Virginia. Jose Rosendo Marquez was later on arrested in late November. Meanwhile, there was no report if Marquez admitted or denied the allegation against him.

Last week, Marquez was extradited back to North Carolina to face the child sexual assault charges and he is currently being held on a $1.5 million bail. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement also confirmed that Marquez failed to appear at his immigration hearing in August 2005.

Additionally, a federal immigration judge released an order that mandates the deportation of Marques from the U.S. to El Salvador. A report from Breitbart also stated that the ICE agents have issued a detainer for Marquez so that if he is released by Iredell County at any time, he will be turned over to their custody for arrest and deportation.

It is not yet known when anytime this year or early next year Marquez will be deported back to his home country. There are no reports as well from the El Salvador government about the case of Marquez.
