Celebrity Breakups of 2020: Star Couples Who Split This Year

The year 2020 is coming to a close and with it comes well-loved pairs that were put on this year's list of celebrity breakups.

Celebrity breakups didn't escape the challenging year that is 2020, especially with people stuck at home to a stressful and painful quarantine period.

The pandemic had people questioning their relationships' ability to survive lockdown for months and while some did, some ships failed to sail any further.

Here are some notable celebrity breakups of 2020:

Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich

Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich made their split known two months after announcing their engagement.

According to Vanity Fair, Lovato split up with Ehrich because she discovered the actor's intentions "weren't genuine."

A source added that Ehrich was only trying to use Lovato's name to further his career by using her name behind her back.

Even though Lovato reportedly informed Ehrich about the breakup, Ehrich told People that he only found out about it "through a tabloid."

Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis

After almost 10 years of being together and a seven-year long engagement, Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis called it quits in November, noted Brides.

They first met in 2011 and began dating a few months later. They got engaged over the holidays on 2012 but didn't announce it until January of 2013.

They had two children, Otis and Daisy but were never married until they finally decided to call off the wedding in November 2020.

The split reportedly occurred at the start of the year and has "been amicable," said People.

The report also said the two actors have gone into a "great co-parenting scheme."

Sebastian Yatra and Tini Stoessel

After almost a year of being together, Sebastini also decided to end their relationship, reported Billboard.

Colombian singer Sebastian Yatra and Argentine singer Tini Stoessel shared the news on Twitter in May.

"We lived beautiful moments but sometimes things don't go as we imagine them," Yatra and Stoesselsaid. "Today we feel that this is the best decision for both of us and we will always cherish the good memories in our heart."

They had two tracks together, "Quiero Volver" and "Oye."

Two days after the breakup was announced, they both dropped an at-home version of "Oye."

Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson

Miley Cyrus started her romance with Cody Simpson in October 2019, but the relationship didn't last a year.

After only 10 months, TMZ broke the news that the couple parted ways "within the last few weeks" prior to August 13.

It was unclear what prompted the split but before any rumors started spreading, Cyrus took control of her narrative and confirmed the news on Instagram, reported Harper's Bazaar.

She explained that at the time, she and Simpson were working on themselves to "become the people that we wanna be, like everybody else at this age."

She stressed that she and Simpson will continue to be friends post-breakup.
