CBP, ICE Report Thousands of Border Arrests and Seizures
The Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Tuesday released the reports on significant results of the agencies' operations, including those along the border wall, that happened this year.
The construction of the U.S.-Mexico border wall has been a part of President Donald Trump's campaign when he first ran for office. It was both embraced and criticized, but the good thing is that it helped stop illegal immigrants, drug trafficking, and other unlawful activities.
CBP and ICE Reported Arrests and Seizures
Before the new administration enters the White House, the CBP and ICE reported the number of arrests and seizures the agencies made this year and the importance of the border wall that Trump promised to build.
The two agencies said the wall helped boost the country's defense system against illegal immigrants and illegal drugs. It helped stop illegal immigrants from crossing the border and the trade of illicit drugs that resulted in the confiscation of tons of cocaine.
According to a recently published OANN report, CBP said the president's promise is as necessary now as it was in 2016.
In the agency's year-to-date statistics of convictions, CBP noted that it had conducted more than 176,000 "enforcement actions" since the beginning of October. That includes the seizure of nearly 135,000 pounds of drugs and recovered more than $10 million.
In the numerous arrests that the CBP made at the border, 60 of them so far have been connected to violent gangs such as MS-13. It cannot be denied that different organized groups and cartels are operating along or near the border for their illegal activities.
Additionally, ICE also removed over 185,000 people, with nearly 119,000 who had outstanding warrants or pending criminal charges in the fiscal year 2020. It is a clear manifestation that the Trump administration agencies have exerted efforts to keep violent criminals out of the country.
Trump's Border Wall Campaign
Trump has been campaigning to build a border wall since his 2016 campaign. For him, it will help the country reduce the number of illegal immigrants and, at the same time, limit the unlawful activities of organized groups and cartels.
Trump has allotted billions of dollars to expand and reconstruct the border wall. Part of the $2.3 trillion pandemic aid and spending package that the president recently signed includes billions of dollars for border wall construction.
The CBP and ICE maintained that building the wall had helped them as the percentage of re-offenders has continually gone down since Trump took office.
When Trump first ran into the office, he said: "As far as our borders are concerned - we need strong borders, we need a wall. If I run, I tell you, the king of building buildings, the king of building walls - nobody can build them like Trump, that I can promise you."
Now, the border wall does not only help stopped illegal immigrants from crossing the border, but it has also helped halt travelers from Mexico.
To limit the further spread of coronavirus, the U.S. has reached an agreement not only with Mexico but also with Canada to limit all non-essential travel across borders.
