Watch Out for These 2021 Films That Put Latino Talent Front and Center
A new year means new films and this 2021, there are a handful of projects that put Latino stars front and center.
In fact, 2021 is probably lining up some of the most anticipated films ever just because the global pandemic had delayed many movies.
However, the entertainment business barely stops and this 2021, it is now ready to deliver more films featuring some strong Latino representation.
Here are some of this year's films that feature Latino power:
Cinderella
Set for a February release, this year will also feature a Cinderella story. But now, it's going to be a little bit different from the earlier versions.
An article from MovieWeb this new version of the classic fairytale will be a musical romantic comedy featuring the enchanting Camila Cabello.
Hola! said in an article that this will be the American-Cuban singer's silver screen debut alongside other musical and acting talents such as Idina Menzel and Billy Porter.
The film would be written and directed by Pitch Perfect writer and producer Kay Canon.
It is said that Cabello and Menzel will both be having original performances in the film.
No Time to Die
Following the story of James Bond yet again, No Time to Die is another anticipated movie for this year.
While Daniel Craig will undoubtedly deliver a good job in portraying the fictional British MI6 agent for the last time, another strong cast member is Cuban actress Ana de Armas.
She revealed with Yahoo! Movies that she ultimately decided to join the case after it as confirmed that her character, Paloma, would not be a "stereotypical Bond girl."
She told Vogue Mexico that what mattered to her the most in playing the role of Paloma in the 25th installment of the Bond franchise was that it represented empowered female characters.
Paloma's version of an empowered woman was also showcased in a "realistic way and outside of the stereotype," she added.
Marry Me
Yet another rom-com in this year's film lineup, Jennifer Lopez will be serving fans with a role that hits close to home: a pop star.
She will be appearing opposite Owen Wilson and Maluma as the lead cast members.
According to Oprah Mag, Marry Me tells a story about two music legends (J.Lo and Maluma) in a crumbling relationship.
When Lopez's character finds out that her fiancé was cheating on her the day before they tied the knot, she decides to marry a stranger in the crowd (Wilson.)
It was originally set to be released on Valentine's Day weekend to May 14 of this year.
Deadline said in a report that the film is one of Lopez and Wilson's highly tested features, and Universal Pictures is looking forward to making an event of the movie's release.
In The Heights
The film adaptation for the Broadway musical has been ever-delayed but is now set to wow fans as it will finally hit fruition this year.
Being an icon in the musical world, Lin-Manuel Miranda gave film and TV his talents from time to time.
But In The Heights on Broadway was one of the reasons why Miranda became a household name.It hits close to him as it is set in the Dominican-American neighborhood of Washington Heights in New York.
The film features Anthony Ramos , Melissa Barrera, Stephanie Beatriz and other acclaimed stars.
